DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a reversal of plans to charge a 20% toll on cargo going through the Strait of Hormuz, saying that Middle Eastern countries will instead make investment and trade deals with the U.S.
"Based on highly productive conversations with Middle East leadership, I have decided to replace the 20% United States Reimbursement Fee with Trade and Investment Deals that the various Gulf States will be making into the United States," Trump said on social media.
The president said the investments "will be MASSIVE," though it's unclear if these would be new commitments relative to what Trump announced after a visit last year to the Middle East.

The focus of the conflict now is the strait, through which a fifth of all traded crude oil and natural gas passed in peacetime. Iran effectively shut the passage during the war by attacking and threatening ships — a tactic that proved its greatest strategic advantage. It sent the price of oil, fertilizer and other goods soaring at a time when world leaders were already struggling to address rising costs.
The interim deal was supposed to reopen the waterway, but Iran has attacked ships moving through the strait on a route overseen by the U.S. military that is outside Tehran's control.
The U.S. has now threatened to reopen the strait by force — but experts say that will require a much bigger armada if not tens of thousands of American ground troops.

"These strikes will continue imposing a heavy cost on Iranian forces and degrade their ability to attack innocent civilians and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," the U.S. military said.
Iran responded with attacks targeting Bahrain, Jordan and three tankers that traveled through the strait. Kuwait's military said it was responding to an aerial attack without providing further details.

The price of Brent crude oil, the international standard, rose to a one-month high of over $87 in trading Tuesday, still well below the nearly $120 reached at the height of the war but threatening to raise costs everywhere.

Rubio probably called him up and told POTUS "hey bro, thanks for embarrassing me"

Iran's neighbors don't like Iran very much.

Trump wins again!!! This guy is just awe-inspiring.

So he's still requiring financial interest from those countries. Got it.

So Trump threw out an extreme measure, then settled on something else.
The same exact fricking thing he’s done forever and wrote a book about.

Probably not. Just unfullfilled promises and chitchats over the phone (if the phone call even happened, he lies about them all the time.) Another flop by the Taco. So embarrassing for the people who still back this Israeli firster. Miriam Adelson's Aipac puppet.

The pushback was go big (even from GOP) that he danced back from his hairbrained scheme that God knows who cooked up for him.

It’s just the way he talks. Everything he says is off the cuff.
The problem with most people is the they take what Trump says seriously but don’t take the man seriously as a politician and president.

Let me simplify it it for you Bunk. That 20% fee would send tanker ships elsewhere, such as to Venezuela for purchasing oil. All those ME oil producing countries would then lose out on the sales of millions of barrels of oil. It's better on them to invest in America or help pickup the costs for keeping the SOH open for business.
Stop doubting Trump the businessman. This isnt Potatoe Joe or red-line Obama in the Whitehouse.

Imagine if he uses verbal tactics to force people's hand in negotiating. Almost like he's a pro at that. Dumbasses.

How many barrels of oil per day do you think Venezuela produces? How long do you think it would take to get that number up close to the ME number?

Pretty sure the Lawyers from the State Dept, the Pentagon, and the DoJ all got a good snicker from this when Trump shot from the hip, and then said ... Uh, no Sir, can't do that one
