Median = middle, according to the "save up" comments the middle class of this nation should drive a shithole, eat cabbage for every meal, and cram a nuclear family into a small house in a shitty neighborhood OR live 70 miles from where they work
Or it could mean don't be in the middle. Maybe strive to be above the middle. If you are in the "middle", you shouldn't be trying to live with those in the upper section.

We are making just fine, again top 10% of income earners last year.

Just laughing at the hilariously dumb tone deaf comments some of you are making.

Oh man you mean some people have to actually pay a lot for health insurance???? Who would have thought that, rabble rabble losers rabble rabble

Yes (Ripleys!) Believe it or Not, people who werent in the military which just so happens to be like 90-95% of the population, might not get super subsidized government healthcare. In fact, believe it or not, there's plenty of entrepreneurs who have to literally pay for insurance entirely out of their pocket, and if you havent noticed, insurance costs have also gotten out of control on their own level over the last decade+ (thanks Obamacare!)

Again you are parsing your information. If you are bitching about getting a bigger house than either you made bad choices (had kids too early), didn't get degress in well-paying jobs, or just suck at your current jobs. OR you haven't realized you have not paid your dues.

My first house was 1280 sq ft
Second with 1 kid was 1300
Third with 2 kids was 2000
Fourth was 3800
This one is 6200 (with a basement).

But we ate a lot of fricking ramen, and didn't keep up with Joneses. Drove shitty cars, and ate home, but now we are where we can enjoy ourselves. I also have two kids going to college next year.

And for us our income had a meteoric rise in the past 4 years. We went from 230k to 400k. But we haven't changed houses or done anything differently.

We don't have any parental assistance with childcare so it's a pretty expensive addition.

Yeah I am really only familiar with Atlanta real estate.

Your argument would be a lot better if you made it clear that you think living in Atlanta requires an annual income of $350k to be middle class.

It still sounds kinda ridiculous on its face. But I wouldn’t argue with it because I don’t know shite about Atlanta and don’t care to learn anything.

You're talking about that, because you want to live in the area you want to live. You can live and live quite well in a rural setting.

Understand every time you tell someone who lives in an urban or suburban major metro setting is like telling someone like yourself, hey just move to downtown ATL in the ghetto, its cheaper.

Maybe you might understand the shock a little more.

We didn't either. Our parents live out of state. We are from NOLA.

My household is about 300 pre tax. Im doing just fine

Life is a bell curve. It is impossible for everyone to be above average. The comments in this thread are insinuating that the middle class should live like paupers

Again, do something different. One of you could work during the day and one the night shift. Move to a location where the cost of living is less. When the kids are old enough for school move back. One of you get a second job. Most of my life I have had 2 jobs. Adapt and overcome. "I can't" never did anything.

Cool. NOLA must be a wild place to grow up.

My parents have both passed away.

We would have no economy if everyone served in the military for 20 years. Thus, that is not a viable solution.

City zoning laws are created almost exclusively by Democrats in almost every large city in the US. 9 of the top 50 cities in population have Democratic mayors.

It's amazing how bad some of you miss the entire point each and every time

BTW - I'm 38 I dont think the military would take me at this point...nor would i ever want to be in it at this point

I also dont think a solution for the tens to maybe even hundred million americans having to pay a lot for health insurance is to say "join the military". Unless you know, we plan on some world domination coming up with a military of 100 million

I also have no problems with health insurance. Mine is free through work, pay $100 something a month for my daughter and my wife's through he work is like $200/mo. Pretty low cost across the board, luckily we have jobs willing to subsidize a gigantic portion of our healthcare.
