The destructive influence of Norman Lear shows on society in the 1970’s

There are some common themes amongst all Norman Lear television shows beginning in the 1970’s that I believe, and believed then even as a kid, that were instrumental in influencing and eroding American society over the years afterward, being rooted in pure Marxism.
One of the chief goals of Marxism is to destroy the family, traditional values, and of course religion (faith/God). In most of his shows, which were wildly popular in that time, because of course laughter always makes the medicine go down, the family, traditional values, and religion are things that are made to be the butt of jokes, or shown to be out of step with modern society, or just plain not useful. I remember as a kid noticing how blatant and yet cleaver it was, and how this simply did not at all line up with the society I was living in or the lives of those I knew either. Even as a kid I could see the subversion, as much as I could in skits on SNL, or little social lectures that began creeping in, and in the news as well.
Let’s take a look at Norman Lear shows though…
All in the family
A conservative minded Archie who was always saying very racist, insensitive, and outright ignorant stuff to or course cast a very negative light on conservatives, while Michael (meathead) the resident liberal who was married to Archie’s daughter and living in his house always seemed to have a liberal take that was shown to be correct and in touch, and very much non racist. Then there was Edith (dingbat) who was Archie’s dutiful subject, a lesson in how patriarchal system had subjugated women in relationships.
Maude
Maude, an over the top loud mouthed super liberal feminist who wore all of the pants in the family, and her weak and inept 4th husband who was always in the background. She was always shown to be truly plugged in to things, and always shown to be right in the show, and boy did she run the show. There were nothing but liberal social lectures pumped into your head.
One Day At A Time
A single divorced mom raising two daughters, and the only male in the show is an idiot maintenance man (pseudo husband figure I suppose) who is always saying incredibly stupid stuff and giving terrible advice. The focus is on her struggles to raise these girls and how she is going to raise them completely different than the way she was raised, and let them work things out for themselves. The emphasis is on doing what you feel is best rather than any concrete moral guidance through life.
Sanford and Son
Once again, an old out of touch and somewhat prejudiced black man living with his open minded son constantly getting in trouble with his antics. There’s a batty aunt ester with her religious stuff, a Hispanic neighbor who always seems to be the most logical of the bunch, and then you have the 2 cops, a down with it black officer, and a dumb as dirt out of touch white officer who can’t seem to get anything right. Although not nearly as many outright social lectures, there are some and they are again hidden in comedy to make said medicine go down.
The Jeffersons
A black family that finally overcame white oppression and made it to the east side. George (father) is an extremely racist person (basically the black version of Archie Bunker) but usually has some truth mixed in with his racism. Then there’s the mixed race couple, the Willis’, and the super liberal white man in the couple who butchers everything and is a completely out of touch buffoon. Racism is a constant theme in this show.
The real long and short of this is that while most people found these shows hilariously funny, entertaining, and very popular, our society has undoubtedly been reprogrammed over the years in our value system, and this was never some random happening, but a very deliberate effort to change and erode American culture, and they were very successful in their attempts. They played the long game, and have won through television “programming”. There are undoubtedly many who might think that I am overestimating the influence that these comical shows had on America, but I remember television and life before these show, and after, and as far as I’m concerned, these shows paved the way for all future shows that use comedy to introduce subject matter that influences public opinion and corrupts America, especially when it comes to our morals, norms, and values.
I think that Norman Lear was very much part of an orchestrated effort to reprogram America through comedy and these shows have been used as a road map on how to influence American opinion and culture through the medium of comedy and television in general.

What a shocker. I was born in 70 and really young when most of these were on the air and, even as a kid, they came across as preachy, virtue signaling shows. Not unlike Designing Women that came later.
Sanford and Son was the only one of these shows that was worth a shite. All In The Family was the most popular, but I never could get into it.

Lol..just LOL. That post ranks in the top twenty of revisionist tin foil conspiracy history.

I had no idea what the show Maude was about until now.

Linda Bloodworth-Thomason was Lear’s heir for the 1980s.
Designing Women was a platform for every leftist pet cause, with Dixie Carter serving as the ranting mouthpiece in most episodes.

You are correct, sir. And Shonda Rhimes is Norman Lear 2.0

Completely spot on analysis, by making it funny and piping in the laughter, in every one of those, it was a subtle programming
Roots had all the national “white dads” play evil white characters. You had the dad from Bonanza, the Brady Bunch and the Waltons, all long running sitcoms, with the white dad as evil. Even Lou Grant, the father figure of MTM was a mental case ship captain. It’s not just Happenstance

Lear was born in New Haven, Connecticut,[3][4] the son of Jeanette (née Seicol) and Hyman "Herman" Lear, a traveling salesman.[4] He had a younger sister, Claire Lear Brown (1925–2015).[5] Lear grew up in a Jewish household in Connecticut and had a Bar Mitzvah ceremony.[6] His mother was originally from Ukraine, while his father's family was from Russia.[7][8][9]
When Lear was nine years old and living with his family in Chelsea, Massachusetts,[10] his father went to prison for selling fake bonds.[11] Lear thought of his father as a "rascal" and said that the character of Archie Bunker (whom Lear depicted as white Protestant on the show) was in part inspired by his father, while the character of Edith Bunker was in part inspired by his mother.[11] However, Lear has said the moment which inspired his lifetime of advocacy was another event which he experienced at the age of nine, when he first came across infamous anti-semitic Catholic radio priest Father Charles Coughlin while tinkering with his crystal radio set.[12] Lear has also said he would hear more of Coughlin's radio sermons over time, and found out that Coughlin would at times find different ways to promote anti-semitism by also targeting people whom Jews considered to be "great heroes," such as US President Franklin Roosevelt.[13]

I find it ironic that out of these shows the one that gets rerun the most is Sanford & Son.
The other shows were like drinking warm pickle juice and no one in the country seemed to like meathead.
At my Grandpa's house his two favorite shows were Saints football and wrestling with westerns as a third.

I didn't watch any of his shows. I stopped watching network TV sitcoms in 1970 when Greenacres adopted a child. I knew that was the end of great scripts.
Every comedy I watched after 1970 was cable/sat. Early favorites were Monty Python, The Tush Show, The Young Ones, and Mystery Science Theater 3,000.

Ironically, in real life, Dixie Carter was one of few open, outspoken Republican actors in Hollywood.

She had a deal with the writers on the show. Every time that she had to do a preachy, liberal diatribe, she got to sing a song on the show.
Sounds like a shitty trade.

I think these shows were more a reflection of a changing society than a cause of it.

So basically all white men are dumbasses, especially conservative and/or religious whiteys
It may not be hard to change reprobates towards their future, but these shows went out of their way to promote untrue stereotypes

There a promos on TV. They are commercials during a program you're watching. I've seen promos for all of those shows. The promos are supposed to be really funny. They were all crap.
Please don't be offended but I have a much higher standard of comedy writing than anyone I know.
Even as a child I did not find cartoons funny at all. Except for Rocky and Bullwinkle. That writing was great.

Not even close, but that shows you the power and influence of television.

I guess I can see how someone might reach that conclusion if they think that a hand full of characters on TV are intended to be a reflection of all white men. I don't see it that way.
