And?

I took AP lit in California and we had to read Bible passages in order to recognize allusions in literary works.

The Bible is a literary work. It is literature. It is studied by literary critics. There is not a written work that has influenced novelists and poets more than the Bible. Most works of literature with lasting value are replete with biblical allusions and references

You cannot fully interpret most works of the western literary canon if you don’t have a cursory understanding of various biblical stories and figures.

fricking deal with it you twit

This is the type of shite that opens the door for more troubling things to fester. You don't battle religious idiocy with more religious idiocy.

As long as they teach it as a work of fiction I'm ok. It is so dumb to force schools to teach one particular religion. Imagine how you dumbasses would react if this were the quran instead of the Bible.

It's one of the most famous works of fiction in history, so I get the appeal of wanting to teach it.

Yeah, I’d feel awful, and probably do something about it. But it’s not.

The Bible is the most read and most studied book of all time. Should we just ignore it?

It’s actually the most proven work to stand up to historical and archeological standards. Dig a little bit deeper is my suggestion

Yes, it is a religious book which should be kept out of schools. It can be studied at the college level.

If taught properly, you probably wouldn't like it, since it should be taught as a literary work of fiction. I would have less problem with that since it could go alongside things like Greek mythology.

But if it is tried to be taught as fact, that is wrong and completely not appropriate for classrooms.

Most scholars would disagree with you. At least on large portions of the Bible. Much of it is confirmed by our historical and archeological standards. Of course there is some that is disagreed upon and/or “left to faith.” Doesn’t mean it can’t be or shouldn’t be talked about

I am neither a Christian, communist, or Muslim, but your post is bullshìt.

The vacuum created by removing Christianity has brought in religious movements which are MUCH worse, like the religion of BLM, climate change, socialism, and lgbtq.

More it is an easy way to push people away from Christianity. I am not religious but I respect all religions and religious beliefs. I will let my children make a religious decision on their own rather than trying to force something on them.

But when stuff like this happens I have to tell them the truth. A year ago I told them a bunch of religious politicians want to force the 10 commandments and Christianity into every classroom. And now they want to force you to leave their religion in a classroom because they know nothing other than than trying to force this on children. It is predatory.

At worst, teach all religions and let kids decide what they want to believe in. But Christians would be terrified of their own kids learning other points of view because they may turn away from Christianity.
