Yeah, I'm kind of split on it. I know why the people on the ground would be pissed. I also recognize that those two Congressmen see the same damn shitshow we do and have watched the President and his Administration repeatedly lie about what is going on.

“It’s another hostage on the line, Queen. Should I say that you’re not here?”

I guess I read more into like they went there, caused a disruption of the security that is there, and then didn’t even contribute to the solution by at least bringing a load of them out of the country.

That’s how I it came to my mind, maybe it’s just been a long day.

Moulton is tweeting about how he went expecting to push to extend but now realizes there is nothing to be done and it's futile. In other words, he's giving cover to Biden.

Meijer is a grandstanding douche. Everything he does is optics.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two members of Congress flew unannounced into Kabul airport in the middle of the ongoing chaotic evacuation Tuesday, stunning State Department and U.S. military personnel who had to divert resources to provide security and information to the lawmakers, U.S. officials said.

Officials said Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., and Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., flew in on a charter aircraft and were on the ground at the Kabul airport for several hours. Officials said the two men were flying out of Kabul on another charter aircraft, prompting officials to complain that they were taking seats that could have gone to other Americans or Afghans fleeing the country.

Two officials familiar with the flight said that State Department, Defense Department and White House officials were furious about the incident because it was done without coordination with diplomats or military commanders directing the evacuation.

I mean say what you want about either party in Congress, but it's this kind of thing I can get behind. Put your money where your mouth is and see the shite firsthand.

Conspiracy theory side of me thinks they may be getting an assessment and reporting it to members of congress to build a case against the president..

They will provide cover for Biden saying it was a hopeless situation and we had to get out.

Soooo, just caught up in today. What a shite show. I’m furious and devastated. Our country cannot continue under this kind of “leadership.” The news today made me realize that I now have no faith in our government at all. I’ve been unhappy with our government but I always believed they would at least protect US citizens. Now I know they won’t.

What good is a government that cannot fulfill their primary function of protecting its citizens?

I think it's more likely to create a shitshow and take eyes away from what's being funded in the Infrastructure Bill.

I was wondering what the frick they were doing, and that didn't even occur to me (the quoted portion of the story doesn't give any clue as to the reasoning).

I appreciate the idea, but it wasn't worth it. They couldn't possibly get a good idea of what is going on outside of the airport. Not worried about "taking up outgoing seats", though. It would have just been unvetted Afghans, not Americans.
