re: Talarico’s Pastor Says Jesus Didn’t Die For Sins, Slanders Virgin Mary

Jesus was quite clear that salvation is through Him and not in keeping the commandments or the Law, He is the fulfillment of the commandments and Law. Now, He said the 2 greatest items are loving God and loving your neighbors and that the Law and prophets flow from those two. But, had keeping the commandments alone brought salvation, Jesus would not have had to die. Salvation through Christ produces fruit which is manifest in believers, but do not mistake that fruit of the path of salvation.
His talk with Nicodemous (someone pious in the Law and the commandments) is very instructive. As was His talk with the rich young man who claimed to have kept all the commandments himself, Jesus showed him the flaw in that. Paul also talked about the impossibility of perfectly keeping the commandments. We simply cannot do so and the Law highlights our sins and the impossibility of ourselves meetings God's holy standard of perfection. One sin forever bars you from the standard of God's perfection. That is why faith in Christ is so important. Only He was perfectly righteous and through faith in Him HIS righteousness is imputed to us. It is through His righteousness and not our own that we have standing before God.
If you ever sinned in any degree you already failed in keeping the Law or the commandments. Through Christ all was kept perfectly by Him and it is faith in him and not things we do that brings salvation. As Isaiah wrote, all of our righteousness is as filthy rags (to show how unclean we are in and of ourselves the rags spoken of here were the rags women sat on during their period.) If you are basing your salvation on your actions and works alone you will be found lacking. Grace of God through faith in Christ is a marvelous thing.

That thing ain't got nothing on this thing. This Rev Thing says that when Jesus was resurrected, he transitioned. And if you deny that Jesus is trans, you deny the divinity of Jesus.

You are a follower of Paul and you view it all through the lens of Paul. He's a false prophet.
Jesus repeatedly says over and over if you love him, if you believe in him, you will keep the commandments. He tells the rich man this, he says many will say to him Lord Lord and he will know them not.
Paul turns believing in him into believing he died on the cross for your sins. But that is not at all how Jesus defined it. He told people they have to keep the commandments.
He said directly "If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments". And when the disciples asked who could possibly be saved, he said "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible". And if you go into John 14 it describes the process.
Now you tell me what better way to get people to sin than to tell them they are forgiven not by keeping the commandments, but by believing in a blood sacrifice. And that's also why the Paul version of Christianity took hold. The sacrifice is much easier than actually having to do it.

Only Paul calls it impossible, Jesus does not.
Name the commandment that is impossible for man to keep.

It's not about works, or being perfect from birth. It's about gaining understanding, learning and fixing your sins so that you can be someone who is fit for life in heaven.
If you are a thief, you can not live in a society without theft. Your very presence makes that society impossible. This goes for murder and other sins. If you are someone who will do them, then you can not be permitted in it. It's just logically impossible and it's why you are here to begin with.
The path/way is a real thing. It's to follow the commandments(or the understanding behind them to be more exact). Every choice you make decides that path. People make mistakes, people sin without realizing(most often through government, just as those who killed Jesus).
You are forgiven for your sins when you fix them. Just like when your kids are making mistakes, you only want them to fix those mistakes. So if you are a thief, then fix that and you will be forgiven. Not to be confused with a blind eye, which is what man ask for. Which is wanting to be forgiven without fixing the sin.
And when you do that, you will follow the correct path.
If I come up short isn't going to be fixed because I failed to believe in a blood sacrifice. And if I am only saved by the death of truth, the death of the way and the death of the light, then it's because I am the lie, my way is incorrect and I run to the darkness because I fear the light. Then I deserve the 2nd death. I don't want to be saved by those things.
I will never follow Paul, I do not call myself a Christian because I reject it's very foundation of the blood sacrifice and the creation of an idol, which is in itself against the commandments.
Which commandment is impossible to keep? Especially if you have understanding that comes from God, as Jesus actually talks about?

So basically faith is determined by who you were raised by and even more so, where you were raised?
It makes such little physical sense (religion) that where you were born dictates what you have to blindly believe without questioning (bc it defies all logic and reason) or else fearing burning in hell for eternity, or at the very least ostracized from local society

Correct. Knowledge of the holy is understanding, and understanding is universal. Available to any culture.
It's like math and people here can only repeat 1+1=2. They lack understanding of math and thus they are unable to apply it to their lives. They are unable to see 1+2=3 is another true expression, or that 1+1=3 is a false expression.
And that leads them to make ignorant claims as you describe. Which are utterly ridiculous.

I had to make two posts to reply because I exceeded the limit in making this one long post. Here is part 1.
Ahhhh the ole "But Paul" line. I am sure I am about to read a ton of unbiblical, gnostic inspired, pseudo-philosophical nonsense. You will pretend that Paul didn't get the Gospel from Jesus and that some how Paul was not in association with the other apostles. You will go down the road of the Judaizers. Let's see how right I am.
Oh boy you are going down that road. You are trying to create a division between Jesus and Paul that the New Testament doesn't support or teach at all, you show a massive misunderstanding. Jesus taught against meaningless professions of faith and hypocrisy, He said those who love Him would keep His commandment, but you assume this means sinners can earn salvation by keeping the Law and that is not what Jesus taught, at all. You are already way outside Biblical teachings so I can only imagine the "interesting stuff" you say next.
Spend time reading John 3 and understand what love of Jesus means and also what He meant to the young rich ruler. You have no clue. It boils down to you want a works based salvation based on yourself because you are pridefully suppressing the truth in order to deify yourself in the end.
However, Christ taught eternal life is gained only through faith in Him. Jesus is very clear on this in John 3:16: "“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Do you see what the Lord did not say? He did not say "Whoever keeps the commandments perfectly shall have eternal life." Again, you have zero Biblical basis for your claims.
Jesus continues in John 3:18: "“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already.” Again, the line in the sand here is faith in Jesus not commandment keeping. Jesus clarifies even more in John 5:24: “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Jesus no where says the person can receive eternal life by showing him/herself obedient enough. It is by believing in Jesus (faith) that one passes from death to life.
Jesus was asked in John 6:28: “What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” If eternal life were possible by keeping the commandments this would have been the prime time for Jesus to say that. However, He does not say that. Jesus replied: “This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” (John 6:29) You have zero basis for your ideology.
Later in the chapter we read these sayings of Jesus: “Every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life.” (John 6:40)
And again: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”(John 6:47) You position of salvation by keeping the commandments is impossible to maintain in light of the biblical texts.
I can go on a lot more on this path but this will suffice. Now that your error has been dealt with, let's move on.
You are incorrect. Jesus did indeed teach that man is not able to meet God's holy standard on his own based on his own works or keeping commandments as you call it. The rich young ruler (from here own RYR) laid claim to his salvation by keeping the commandments Jesus exposed this and pretty much equated it with idolatry (worshipping the commandment themselves which is what you are very close to doing yourself.)
At hearing this his disciples were astounded that keeping the Law was not able to impute salvation. They asked Jesus "Who then can be saved?" Jesus answered them by saying “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:25–26) Here, Jesus Himself is calling salvation by human ability and works impossible. Jesus then give the standard which is far more than rule keeping. He says anger is akin to murder, lust is akin to adultery and to love our enemies.
At this point you have failed to keep the commandments yourself. You failed because Jesus said the standard is “You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). With one sin that you have committed you are no longer able to say you are keeping the law. Your whole argument is destroyed by not on the words of Jesus, but by your own sin.
The question isn't "can we avoid breaking a command for a while?" The question is "can we prefect keep the commandments in totality and never fail in any degree?" The answer is no. If that is your hope then you have built your house on shifting sand. This is why Jesus told Nicodemus not to work on keeping the commandments better, but rather “whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Our standing before God rests in Christ and not any self-proclaimed righteousness of our own. If that is your position you will find it woefully lacking.
How New Age guru of you. But even your statement still makes salvation rest on yourself and your works in "fixing your sins." That is Biblical nonsense. Jesus did not say fix your sins to become worthy of eternal life. The Lord said “Whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16), and “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life” (John 5:24).
Sanctification and growth matter but they are the fruit of salvation and not the case of salvation. You have the horse way ahead of the cart and you have zero Biblical basis for such a statement that flies in the face of the words of Jesus. Christianity is not about "fixing yourself." Such is impossible in light of the holy standard of perfection required by a holy and wholly perfect God. Christianity is about being reconciled to God through Christ by faith and being transformed by Him. You have spewed nothing but outdated heresy that has been debunked for a long long time.

Here is part 2.
You are still making forgiveness something we earn by our works (correcting ourselves you call it.) This is not Biblical and it is not the Gospel. Jesus never taught this at all. Jesus did say "“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). The way isn't some system or 12 step program to correct yourself, the way is Christ Himself.
Jesus taught forgiveness is something that God by His grace grants to those who repent and come to Him. Luke 18 we see the ole tax collector didn't first "correct his sins" then get forgiveness. The tax guy cried out “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” and this is why Jesus said the man “went down to his house justified” (Luke 18:13–14). If our forgiveness depended on "fixing yourself" then we are without hope and without salvation because no one can or will reach sinless perfection on their own. Ever. You have zero Biblical support for your anti-Gospel ideology.
You have a major problem and a fatal flaw in your argument here. You are attributing the sacrifice nature of Jesus's death to Paul, but Jesus Himself taught it. The Lord said “The Son of Man came…to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45), and when He instituted the Lord's Supper, Jesus said, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28). So for you to say this sacrificial ideal is only original with Paul is nonsense and of course false.
Jesus never said “Understand better and fix yourself.” He said, “Whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16), and “Whoever believes has eternal life” (John 6:47). Your thoughts here are a lot of things, but Biblically correct is no one of those things. I will pray for you. I do hope you discover salvation that is only through faith in Christ. You are trying to strain out a gnat while swallowing a camel. (Matthew 23:24) You are certainly on the road of the Judaizers, the first generation church rebuked them then and it still holds now.
It's 2:15 AM...boy time got away!
I got a long weekend and lot of miles to drive this weekend. I may revisit this or may not. I am pretty sure you will just rehash what as already been dealt with. Hope you have a good weekend, and Roll Tide! Hope Bama whips the Gamecocks tomorrow!

I'm not going to watch it, so I assume what the twitter says is true -- I do not doubt there are some Episcopals/Methodists who say things like this.
Someone could make the case that God does not have sexual attributes (neither male nor female as God is not anthropomorphic) but trans is pretty outlandish and ridiculous.
Obviously Jesus is not trans either. They did not have such surgeries in those days.

Aren most things determined by how, where and by who ? Such as morals or character? Yes introduction into religion is generally by those who raise you or the area you live in as a child but as a young adult you generally have less outside influences which allows you to grow as a human, or not

Just an FYI, the Democrat governor candidate is flirting with crossing this line as well in one of her ads. She gives her ideology view of govt should be and then ends it with "this is my prayer for Texas". It was very odd and it comes off as if she places govt over God.

You're the one with the "But Paul" lines. You'll use Paul to say "What Jesus actually meant was" and add in verses of Paul to change the meaning of the existing text.

Ok, let's settle this easily.
If a rich man approaches you today and asks you how to get into Heaven, what will you tell him.?
I will tell him he has to keep the commandments. What will you tell him?

Works are not the point. You're building a strawman here rather than debating me.
The point is to walk the path and follow the commandments. If you do that, then good works will likely follow. Just doing random good things however does NOT mean you are following the commandments. You can go out do the best work imaginable, and then turn around and not keep a commandment. And then your good work does not matter, because the actual point is that you walk the path and keep the commandments.
It's not a points system.

Every claim you made here just highlighted the word believe and you never address what it actually means to believe in him.
And yet, Jesus says over and over what it means to believe in him, and to believe in him is to keep the commandments.
You seem to think to believe in him means to embrace an idol, declare Jesus is Lord and accept your free gift based on his death.
And he says this directly in Matthew 19.
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
You leave all this out and instead replace it with the sacrifice and that's why you don't have to do these things.
You did however skip down further in Matthew 19.
quote:
At hearing this his disciples were astounded that keeping the Law was not able to impute salvation. They asked Jesus "Who then can be saved?" Jesus answered them by saying “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:25–26) Here, Jesus Himself is calling salvation by human ability and works impossible. Jesus then give the standard which is far more than rule keeping. He says anger is akin to murder, lust is akin to adultery and to love our enemies.
False. Jesus lays out the process in John 14. Which I know for a fact is a real thing because it's where I got my understanding and describes my experience.
When he says with God all things are possible, he is talking about you need the understanding in order to keep the commandments. And when you have the understanding, then you will keep the commandments properly. That understanding comes from what the bible calls the holy spirit, but I just saw it as God.
This is also said in Psalms 111. And it's finished off in 10 as: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
quote:
The question isn't "can we avoid breaking a command for a while?" The question is "can we prefect keep the commandments in totality and never fail in any degree?" The answer is no. If that is your hope then you have built your house on shifting sand. This is why Jesus told Nicodemus not to work on keeping the commandments better, but rather “whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Our standing before God rests in Christ and not any self-proclaimed righteousness of our own. If that is your position you will find it woefully lacking.
Building on a rock is to build on understanding. It's like math. You understand math and thus you understand the expression of 1+1=2 is true. You also know 1+3=9 is false and that 1+3=4 is actually true. You can use that understanding to build larger concepts and solve bigger problems, and you can use it to improve your daily life. The only way any man can take that away or destroy it is to kill you or your brain. It doesn't matter how many time someone comes at you and says 3+4=11, you will never accept it, even if your body is forced to say otherwise somehow, you will know otherwise. That's a rock.
Also, I completely reject the idea that my own possible failures somehow justifies a system of sacrifice and that everyone else is going to hell, that's the only way etc. What you demonstrate to me is that you glorify the labels and don't have the understanding. You have scream from the tree tops that 1+1=2 proudly, but you don't have the understanding behind it, you don't apply it to your daily life to better it and you can't know if 1+3=4 is true, or if 3+4=11 is false other than to deny anything other than 1+1=2. Your house is build on sand and you will be manipulated into all manner of sin - and are.
If I fall short, that is my failure. But I surely can't see breaking a commandment is the way to fix that.
