This and our comms grid... we would capitulate in a matter of weeks if not days.

China is a paper champ bro. They are solid in tech, nuclear, and manufacturing. They suck at everything else. They have no agriculture, no fertilizer, they import EVERYTHING, and they have the sickest (more diabetes per capita than America) and oldest population on the planet.

No one is. Including anyone who thinks their land or stores or supplies would help them. It wouldn’t.

But that scenario also won’t happen.

Too early for China to start the war in Taiwan.

Need 10 aircraft carriers.

Really interesting thought. Not sure why you think “anyone” couldn’t make it. And why do you think my land isn’t ready for a time like that.

Edit for grammar

Your land is unequivocally not “ready” for 350,000,000 people going without power or utilities for six months. Unless you’re hiding a small army somewhere on whatever acreage you think shields you from the total anarchy and violence that comes from a situation like that.

How so? It’s never been done or even seriously attempted. The House would never pass it regardless.

Ok, fair enough points. I’m not sure where you live or grew up, but I assure you people in some areas will be ok. For six months anyway.

It completely depends on how far you live from major cities. In the southern part of the country, our miserable summers may be what would really protect us at the end of the day.

People aren’t walking from Dallas or Houston hundreds of miles been June and probably September. By then, people in rural areas will be ready for whatever may be left in the fall that may still be alive and traveling.

I believe everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face, but you can really prepare a good defense for those punches.

Way to only address part of my post. That’s rather disingenuous of you.

Root veggies AND Tofu.

They would last for years under siege imho.

As is, the staple for street food in Taipei is stinky tofu. They already eat that shite daily.

The only concern would be keeping it frozen.

If Taiwan has any semblance of air defense (which they do), then China is taking on a rather difficult challenge.

I don’t see why an aircraft carrier is needed given it’s a 10 minute flight from Taiwan to the mainland.

we've had the capacity to win every conflict since WW2 but we lack the conviction or stomach for it.

Hitting back would not change the fact that a large portion of our society would be rioting in the streets after 3 - 4 days of no power, water or comms.

It's not our capacity I am concerned about it's what our society and people have become. The majority of our people are so soft and the multitudes wanting govt to be their daddy will be our downfall.

China would feel it worse than we would. For all of our faults and weaknesses, we still produce a shitload of food and have the capacity to produce excess energy when the government isn't getting involved. Granted, it would take us a while to recover, but China never would.

I am way more prepared than most. I know we could go 2-3 months. I am more concerned about the ravenous hordes that need to go to convenience stores daily for essentials have 2-3 days worth of stores than feeding, watering mine.

I also fear local governments pulling what NOPD did to law abiding citizens after Katrina but that's another story.

suburban canada geese would be in trouble too.

Your last sentence is pretty funny, but completely accurate. I think people MIGHT be ethical to start, but it would turn to eating dogs.

We are pretty much on the same page in regards to the general populations unpreparedness. Just have to have a plan and execute it at all costs. Period.

China does have a high male population due to previous policy decisions. They may welcome a high casualty war.

The combination of the "one child" policy combined with pre-birth sex detection and easy abortion rules in a country whose culture most valued male offspring was a major blunder. They also ended up with a lot of old people and a smaller working age population as another result.

Curiously, covid's victims were mostly old people.

Are we really starting WW3 over Taiwan?

If you all think nuclear weapons going off around the world is worth it, then admit it now.

Taiwan is likely entirely capable developing its own nuclear weapons. May have already. Neither the former Kuomintang nor the natives of Taiwan want to live under communist boots.
