re: Supreme Court strikes down Louisiana map, says the dem seat is a racial gerrymander

This part is new today. Normally court holds onto rulings until after all decisions are done. But they granted an emergency ruling to declare the current map “unconstitutional” forcing an end to any legal delays to keep map until after election. Dems were filing court injunctions to keep the map because “primary had already started”. Another 6-3 decision from USSC said Louisiana can’t use current map and must redraw.
That makes sense, thanks for clarification.
This is great news and now they can fix the problem immediately

Clyburn in South Carolina being replaced would be handy.

shouldn’t this apply to ALL states?
No. Only Louisiana’s map was before the court.

Welcome to last Thursday? Friday?
Negatory. This just hit and is the final nail in the coffin to race-based gerrymandering.

Has there ever been a gerrymandering attempt that was NOT racially biased?
This is an interesting question that Dem states should start to be confronted with.
Did Cali use race to draw ANY of the districts in their new maps? Seems hard to imagine the answer being "no."

Gerrymandering for purely political purposes very much predates racial gerrymandering.

Not so fast. The legislature is looking to draw a district for Cleo and cut out Troy Carter.

Racial gerrymandering isn’t political?

Cracking Orleans Parish is a political mistake if that’s the route they take.

The political science professor I had at LSU in 1971 introduced me to the term. The case he used was from Alabama. At the timeGerrymander=Racism. I think it mostly still does, just in 2026 it’s reversed to Racism=Gerrymander.

Of course other states will be held by this decision.
Should pick up 30 - 40 seats!!

Other states are also expected to move quickly to take advantage of the ruling, both to recraft their congressional seats but also to take advantage of the court’s new interpretation on race to potentially narrow minority representation across state legislatures, judiciaries and other elected bodies.
A projection by Fair Fight Action, a progressive voting rights group based in Georgia, found that Republicans could ultimately secure up to 19 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives nationally because of the ruling. At the state legislative level, Republicans could gain up to 200 seats.
Should pick up 30 - 40 seats!!

And South Carolina will leave Jim Clyborn's ignorantly drawn seat.
The most racist man in South Carolina.
The most racist man in South Carolina.

Georgia?
South Carolina?
It should.
These states failure to do so will invite challenges and invalidate the results in this year's elections. Effectively giving Dems the House.

"Racial gerrymandering isn’t political?"
I was responding to someone asking if all gerrymandering was racial, to which the answer is no. Of course, all gerrymandering is done for political purposes.

Virtually all gerrymandering is racial. Because republicans and democrats live in the same neighborhoods, but blacks and whites don't, for the most part.

How did the Louisiana congress vote in that map to begin with?
Basically by order of a judge that ruled she had the power to draw the map herself if the state didn't redraw it to her satisfaction.

Yeah, he could have told Dick to eat a bag and draw the district herself.

Now, we get to see and hear from the "real" racists. Donna "the beast" Brazille and James "shriveled-up nutsack" Carville will demonize the Supreme Court justices for ruling the way they did. Forget that it was the right call as per the constitution, it didn't go the way the demoRATS wanted it to. They see votes slipping away...well, screw the demoRATS!
