Has there ever been a gerrymandering attempt that was NOT racially biased?

I did not realize Louisiana had 2 arguments before SCOTUS. How often do the release opinions on a Monday?

The Supreme Court on Monday immediately put into effect its ruling invalidating Louisiana’s congressional map, leaving conservative Justice Samuel Alito and liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on opposite sides and accusing each other of lacking restraint.

The order speeds up the normal 32-day timeline before the justices formally return a case to the lower court.

The court's response to the emergency request was unsigned, but in a concurrence, Justice Samuel Alito wrote that Louisiana should not have to use a map found to be unconstitutional. There's still time, he suggested, for the state legislature to adopt a new map.

This part is new today. Normally court holds onto rulings until after all decisions are done. But they granted an emergency ruling to declare the current map “unconstitutional” forcing an end to any legal delays to keep map until after election. Dems were filing court injunctions to keep the map because “primary had already started”. Another 6-3 decision from USSC said Louisiana can’t use current map and must redraw.

I think they had to. You had Obama appointed Judge Shelley Dick up Landry’s arse to add a second minority district, and the legislature obliged. Landry knew he had to accomplish two things draw an unconstitutional district map that would get struck down at the Supreme Court and get Graves out the House.

So far he has succeeded at both.

Little Huey wins one and loses one all to get rid of Graves.

But all is forgiven now.

A mixture of (a) malicious compliance with Shelly Dick’s order to draw a second black district and (b) Landry and Cleo came to an agreement to frick Garrett Graves

The map accomplished a third objective: screwing Garrett Graves.
