I do not watch any show of any kind that tries to inject politics. It is obviously an indoctrination tactic.

The problem with this argument is if he gave a glowing endorsement of the policy direction of the current elected officials, most on here would be glazing him.

"The shut up a play" argument is strictly for whenever an athlete says something political or politically adjacent that an individual does not like. To date, I've never seen someone say, "I agree with this but he should shut up and play ball."

This is exactly my point. You have been programmed to not be able to separate politics from love of country. You are making assumptions.

He is representing a country of 350 million people. He is being paid by these same people to represent us.

He could have avoided the political questions easily and talked about how he got here, the struggles, the sacrifices, how it feels to make the pinnacle of competition.

Instead, he virtue signaled to the vocal minority…

Except that I didnt do that.

So many people here either struggle with English or just enjoy fabricating stuff.

It’s wild.

I actually came here to post this. In the macro it is quite honestly the greatest compliment you can pay to the US to publicly criticize her.
I don’t agree with him but the fact that he can speak negatively and not be drug behind the ski lift and shot is pretty cool.

Honestly I don’t think Olympic athletes should go on record of whether they support everything happening and policies of all parties across the US

No one agrees with everything and that leaves us with every athlete pointing out imperfections in these moments? Awesome.

Are you generally proud to be an American? Cool show up participate go home and work for the local causes you support in our big messy society that allows us all the freedoms to do that

Repulsively off put to the point you can’t hold your comment for another day? Probably boycott the experience.

I don’t think he was materially critiquing as much as fitting in and that’s kind of lame when wearing the flag on a world stage.

“Can” is very cool.

Should in that setting? Less enthused on a personal level.

On that particular stage I think it should be reserved for the exceptional and not become the norm to fit in

I agree with you and what he did is not my style in the least. Fortunately it’s not the style of the vast majority of the athletes.
I didn’t hear the question to which he responded but in all likelihood he was flashed a shiny hook and he took the bait. I’ll bet in several years he will regret his statements.
The irony is that 99.99% of people on this earth look at him and his comments and immediately think “what a privileged twerp, show some gratitude and humility”.

Upset? Consternated? Mad?

Whatever.

You are (add adjective here) that people are using their freedom of speech to criticize an Olympic team member utilizing his freedoms.

Weird?

Absolutely!

I am antigovernment. I think the worst of the worst represent the people. Not very bright and little to no understanding of the public servant role. Most to all are self serving and enriching themselves at the tax payer expense.

I would love that criticism voiced on a global stage.

All criticisms arent created equal.

The open border, pro mental illness stance isn’t one that supports a strong US, but it’s certainly ONE criticism.

Y’all do realize the the Immigration laws that are currently under scrutiny were enacted by a bipartisan Congress.
Unfortunately no one bothered to follow the law until now.
Can everyone agree that US laws should be followed and enforced?
