That battle has already been going on, but this ruling limits Democrats a bit as many of the most heavily gerrymandered districts are blue districts gerrymandered based on race. In some of those areas (Chicago, for instance) they can redistrict and likely keep at least some of their seats (if not most of them), but that change has to be made up somewhere.
Are those states even subject to the VRA? Honest question.

The state of Mississippi is ready. Special session in three weeks to go 4-0.
If the rest of the South follows suit to eliminate the race based minority majority districts mandated by the VRA, it may just save the GOP from losing the house

I’d be surprised if they would be able to change the maps this late in the game, but it will certainly be meaningful for 2028

Where do you think this shite started? With the democrats. The SC just ended. Gfy

Gutting legislation with the actual words "voting rights" in it is the most republican 2026 thing imaginable. Definitely on brand.

Is the 5th the second minority district? What percentage?

Combined with the decision of the Virginia courts ... #WINNING!
Great! Wonderful! But IMO this ruling only creates in the mind of these lunatic leftist (aka Cole Thomas Allen wannabes), the ones lurking in the shadows of the mafia democrat party, an urgency in assassinating this President. And given they sense a thinned, underfunded, and understaffed Secret Service this is the time to move on this.
At one point during his State of the Union Address the President paused, pointed to the democrats and said - these people are crazy. We could not have imagined how prophetic that message was.
I'll say it - we're officially engaged in a Civil War. And the mafia democrats are the aggressors.
God Help Us.
President Trump is right about.........everything.

It’s almost impossible to believe that you guys still don’t understand that Democrats in blue states can, and will, counter any move like this.
Your leftist allies have already squeezed that lemon. The juice is in the GOP states

USSC didn’t “gut” the VRA. It ruled that the VRA didn’t mandate race determination could not be used as a variable in drawing district lines.

Yes. Section 5 (preclearance) was generally used only in southern states, but it was functionally mooted with Shelby County v. Holder. That aspect of the VRA is why many think the whole thing only applied to southern states even though it has been used to strike down maps in northern states as well.

The redistricting pissing match won’t end until the artificial cap on the size of the House imposed in the 1920s is done away with. Even if it means we have to more than double the size of the House. Communities deserve to have someone represent their community, not some artificial blob drawn to win a zero sum game.
A bigger House means dark money becomes less efficient.
In the 21st Century Reps should be able to vote electronically, so the physical constraints of the size of the Capitol in DC aren’t the obstacle they once were. In fact, why do our reps need to be in Washington away from their constituents at all anymore?
