They are desecrating their graves and accosting them in public because of the reputational harm done by Alex Jones and the platform he has to push this narrative against them.
And they chose to jump on his platform, rather than stand by their judgment, which may never be paid but have a better shot at dismantling said platform.
They are taking his money, but letting him keep his influence that hurt them so badly.

The judgement (as you said) triggered bankruptcy, and rather than sit on the judgement meant to cripple Jones financially, they reduced their asking price and now want a cut of his earnings. I’m suggesting that this was always about money
Boom.

You think?
(Gasp) Surely not!

Unfortunately, money is the only means available to address wrongs through civil law.

Defamation is in fact illegal.
Telling someone that their kids arent dead is not defamation though.

Calling someone a crisis actor that never had a kid is defamation though.
No it is not.

You think that's what our tort system is about?

Do you think the Sandy Hook families were wronged when Alex Jones used his platform to spread knowingly false statements about them?

Did it come out in court that he admitted at some point that he knew this?
Because otherwise his deniability is way more plausible than a United States Congressperson who claims the Trump administration was responsible for a law that "separated immigrants from their children."

I think Republicans were wronged when Maxine Waters knowingly spread false statements about them and deliberately incited people to accost them.
In fact, I think she did more than he did to attempt to cause harm. By a wide margin.
What do you think?

No, he hurt their feelings. They aren't entitled to one damn penny, IMO.

Jones's text messages and emails revealed that he was aware that his claims about Sandy Hook were false. In one text message, he wrote, "I was a little bit careless with my words yesterday."
Several of Jones's former employees testified that he instructed them to spread false information about Sandy Hook. One employee said that Jones told him to "make Sandy Hook look like a hoax." Another employee said that Jones told her to "create fake news" about the shooting.
He even admitted to doing so. On multiple occasions, Jones has admitted that he made false statements about Sandy Hook. In one deposition, he said, "I know that some of the things I've said about Sandy Hook have been wrong." In another interview, he said, "I regret some of the things I've said about Sandy Hook."
But by all means, please continue to give the benefit of the doubt to him over the families of victims of an elementary school shooting whom he defamed.

No, he hurt their feelings. They aren't entitled to one damn penny, IMO.
YIKES…

Did he believe what he said? I bet he did. If so, it's not defamation... even if what he said is incorrect. He's allowed to have an opinion. And it's not exactly like he's been wrong with all his other "outlandish" or "conspiracy theories."
Posted on 11/29/23 at 9:55 am to thejuiceisloose
It has to be a knowingly false statement. If the person making the statement believes it, it is not defamation. Sorry. No matter how many fee fees it hurts.

Most of that doesn't prove he knew his statements were false, although employees testifying to that effect would be evidence of knowingly spreading false information.

I haven't given the benefit of the doubt to anyone, and your "But by all means (insert strawman)" bullshite is getting old. Learn a new tune.
Also, for all I know Jones may be guilty/legally culpable. But if he is, Waters is twice as culpable.
THAT'S my main point for you, which you refuse to engage now that all of your technical loopholes have been exhausted.
So if him falsely reporting on that story and having graves desecrated and one plaintiff yelled at by one nutter at a 5k is worth $1.5 BILLION in pain and suffering, I'd say she owes at least $3B.
So do me a favor and don't reply to me again until/unless you're willing to engage that point. I'm not interested in your obvious strawman bullshite.

What does that have to do with my question? Our tort system is driven by contingency fees and $$$$$. "Right" and "wrong" are so far down the list of factors they're in fine print.
