San Francisco Tells Grocery Stores They Can't Check Out OR Ever Leave

A San Francisco lawmaker introduced a proposal that would require grocery stores in the city to provide six months of notice before closing a store and to explore a replacement supermarket at the vacated location.
Preston's proposal would require grocery store owners to provide six months written notice to the Board of Supervisors as well as the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD). The store would also be required to post notices at all entries and exits as a means of informing customers and the general public.
Under the legislation, any person affected by a grocery store's failure to comply with the requirements could initiate legal proceedings for damages, injunctive relief, declaratory relief, or a writ of mandate to remedy the violation.

this is actually perfectly logical
if you decriminalize shoplifting, you must criminalize store closure LINK

The bill does provide some exceptions for businesses that have to close for natural disasters, emergencies, or 'unforeseen circumstances.' (That probably doesn't include rampant looting though, because San Francisco law means that everyone can foresee the crime that comes from that.)

Go Cali go!! Do your thing....
One has to believe that at some point voters in Cali will wake up.

Pretty soon it will be Whole Foods for the millionaires and billionaires and government food depots with bread lines for everyone else in San Francisco.

It’s incredible how fast the communist model progresses.
There are a few community organizers dumb enough to actually think their insane laws will work, but the people behind the scenes know better.
They want the stores to fail so they can seize them and replace it with state run alternatives.
They’re already moving to that step in parts of Chicago.
But because absent the government messing up the system people will never accept their terrible state run alternative they have to create rules to artificially mess it up before they can regrettably institute a solution that just happens to give them more power.
Oops.

San Francisco is proud of what they've done with shoplifting. That goes out the window if a lot of the easy to steal from stores close down, though.

The Supreme Court will end this garbage real quick. Might even get a 7-2 vote if Kagan joins the majority. The wise Latina and unwise hyphen will always vote the liberal position.

It comes from academics and trust funders who have never changed their own oil, or mowed their own lawns.
Its faux communism. What they really want is authoritarian socialism where "they" control the biggest manufacturing/sales base in the world.

I would stay open but draw down the inventory to bare essentials and canned goods.
Stupid rule and probably unconstitutional but it would be easy to get around compliance.

Just another step toward killing capitalism and the ultimate goal of taking over businesses
Over regulate and make it untenable for anyone to own a business and then the government steps in to save the people from the situation they created
Straight out of the communist playbook

Let them steal you blind.
But you have to stay open to allow them to steal.
Whats the next communist step.....government stores that allow them to steal all for DEI !
