Oh wow. I'm really sad to hear this news. I really did like LAT, especially his standing up for what he believed in without seeing if it was OK to do so, or what anyone else thought. I will remember him fondly for that.

It was important to him that he be perceived as a good man who happened to be gay and not a good gay who happened to be a man. Not to be disrespectful of Toddy whom I also like tremendously, but he was really the anti-Toddy. He did NOT want to be defined by his sexuality. I agreed with him and respected him for it.
He had a love hate relationship with me on here. We got into some huge arguments but we always "made up".
I am very surprised that he had a partner. Out of respect for him, I'm not going to rehash a lot but he definitely insinuated that he was no longer gay. He talked about it in an almost tortured way.
The news of his passing has absolutely devastated me even though we never met in real life. We had made it a point that we would meet up whenever I made it out to LA again.
This is just so so sad.

LAT supported many of my personal positions and we shared many a cyber
with each other.
In the last year or so, he became more strident. His anti-gay agenda I took as self loathing, but knowing he had a partner really explains a lot. I too thought he was a loner and really glad to know he had someone close to him. Deep down, he was a great and true Tiger!

and tear in my beer, LAT. I hope he has 50 yard line seats in the stadium of heaven.

Yeah, the partner thing throws me too.
He had a partner when I went to visit him in 2006. The partner was not home at the time but he showed me pictures of them.
I really respected that guy - he never made an issue of sexuality. He argued points on their merits and he despised the 'gay-activist' movement.
I am so sorry he is gone. I had noticed his absence in the past few weeks. I always made a point to read anything he said.
I will miss him tremendously.

I read before the edit. You know LAT would have loved the typo.

I read the first few pages, but didn't see a reason for what happened. Has this been noted yet?
This is terrible news. I remember him from long ago back in the early TD days of 2004 and 2005.

Didn't always agree with him, but was a solid poster on this board. Sucks he's gone.

I'd just like to address two points:
1) he was not conflicted with his sexuality in any way. He had a partner for years and was open about it only if you asked. It didn't define him.
2) He was not conflicted with his faith either. What bothered him was the gay movement and what it was doing to fundamentally change his church. We discussed it via email many times. It tore him apart.

That's really sad to hear, especially considering his presumed youth based on the OP.
R.I.P. los_angeles_tiger.

Terrible. Just fricking terrible.
I met him at Mr. Pockets years ago. Shook hands, talked for maybe 30 seconds after he introduced himself as the local alumni president. I got busy, didn't attend an LSU alumni event for several years until I bought me and the SO tickets for annual crawfish boil. Charley walks up and shakes my hand again, remembering my name and the contents of our brief discussion which had occurred probably seven years earlier in a rowdy bar. That's what kind of guy he was.
I disagreed completely with pretty much every political view he had, but that is neither here or there really. I hope he's in a happier place now.

He was not at all "in the closet" on here either. Sure he didn't spout it off in every post (hell, I don't know that I've ever discussed being straight), by he certainly never made it a secret.
He worked in the movie industry from what I recall, and though he would never name names, he has admitted to fooling around with "straight" movie stars in the past.
He seemed like a very good guy and I am very sad to hear of his passing.
RIP, LAT

Rest in Peace. Sorry to hear we lost a great man.

Yeah, I remember quite a few comments he made to that effect, and conversations I had with him in his faith and the direction he saw the gay movement going. He was always consistent, and I respected the guy a ton for that. In my estimation, los_angeles_tiger was the real deal. That is to say that he was an open, honest, and candid man. I think he thought deliberately, weighed everything, and stood upon what he believed to be true rather than just fall lock step in line with the easy path that wouldn't make so many waves. And judging from the pictures, it looks like he really enjoyed life, and was a happy man. I only wish I could have met the guy IRL. I have a gut feeling we would have become friends. He really seemed like a character.

He was frequently insulting and offensive but who isn't on this board? I always welcomed his participation, as scatterbrained as it mostly was, and clicked on everything he posted. It's shocking that he'll no longer be around.

Ditto. Hope Coolidge is setting him straight, no pun intended.
