a closet homosexual
He was not in the closet. All of his friends knew of his sexuality and he had been with his partner for more than 10 years.
He was a great person who was steadfast in his beliefs and his faith.

Damn this is so sad. I remember him since the beginning of this place. He was a solid poster and always had good things to add. He will be missed. Prayers to his family and friends. Rip los_angeles_tiger.

He was gay and had a partner. I don't think you would necessarily find him in a Pride Parade, but he was gay.
And a Christian.
And a conservative.

I think a sizable portion of posters think he was a closet homosexual and was never able to come to terms with it. It's sad too since I think in this day and age it would be acceptable for him to come out, but his resounding faith prevented him
he was never in the closet on this board, pretty much out early on. It just seemed over the past couple of years he had a tougher time reconciling it with his faith.

Hmmm, well as I said, I didn't know that. I said several times to him that he was that, and granted I did never get any denial from him on it now that I think of it, just a rebuttal on immorality. I just hope he's found a bit more peace now.

I do not think that he hid this fact. I did not know him personally, but in my correspondence with him I always found him to be helpful, caring and kind man. He had his own set of beliefs on which he would never back down. I thought him to be a very honorable guy.

OML, good posts and I'm in perfect agreement.
He was never in the closet. He never talked about it but had no problem confirming it when the issue arises.

I think I was in Tiger Band with him a year or two. Hated his politics on this board, but always thought he was a stand up guy. Never wavered in his positions.
A true Tiger.

A true Tiger.

Kind of sad I called him a closet homosexual in several threads back in the day. He never responded to those accusations, but would always respond to my points. Kind of feel bad that I didn't know he was out of the closet.

My guess is that he never took it to heart. He'd fight anyone over the Tigers or political issues. I just don't think he saw any reason to argue or defend his personal life to anyone.

Well, I have to admit that I didn't know that LAT was gay. Don't know how I could have missed it. As I recall, he was a staunch defender of Biblical principles re sex. Seems I remember him ripping particular gay groupthink/behavior
Not that it matters. LAT gets his face time with the Good Lord; they'll work it out fine. Hope to continue knowing him in the next life.

If you did this, I guarantee you he laughed it off. Like Iona said, he was unapologetic in his beliefs and his faith and he did not believe he had to defend or explain his personal life to anyone.

He did, but you can't help who you really are. He was obviously incredibly frustrated with how his personal life conflicted with his politics and faith. It was certainly a lot of fuel that added to his flame.

A gay catholic? That sounds complicated.

While I am certain that there are many of these, LAT was not Catholic.
ETA: But a damned good Christian.

I knew he was gay but didn't know he was out or that he had a partner. Are we positive that he was and did?
He always seemed very anti-gay (and I don't mean because of his politics; he seemed morally opposed to and personally against homosexuality).
I'm not attacking him here at all. Quite the opposite; if I understand his views, he wouldn't have had a partner and would be pretty offended if someone suggested that he did. Of course I'll defer to the knowledge of those that knew him better and more closely than I did.

You share my views on him when he was alive.

Yes. He and his partner are very good friends of mine.
