I wouldn’t want any harm to befall innocents, yet if a giant sinkhole swallowed whole the entire Potomac basin, the health, security and peace of the entire globe very likely would expand ever so slightly.

Not only would we nuke ‘em with better maintained and more accurate warheads.
The British and French would be NATO bound to nuke them also. Then Polish , Finnish, German, etc troops would invade around the glowing craters. And of course China would invade and annex oil rich Siberia.

That is a very good question. Of course, such a rhetorical question presupposes we are discussing rational actors who are seeking to advance a common good.
At this late stage, that obviously is a ludicrous assumption. Especially after the countless number of repeatedly reckless national security directives by the permanent bipartisan reigning regime in Washington D.C. since at least the end of the Cold War.
Most specifically, how has thirty years of permanent war and countless American lives needlessly wasted in pursuit of perpetual Empire promoted the liberty and security of the American people? The only answer I can surmise is that a deliberate and conscious choice of nihilistic foreign policy objectives necessarily leads to a nihilistic end?
