The conditions in 2031/2032 will be ripe for someone like Desantis who can run on mismanagement

Forget it, a Republican will never win the presidency. Texas will remain blue and get bluer, Cruz will be crushed in his next election. You can probably add MS, NC and SC to the all blue team. This country is no longer a center right country, it’s all left now. We have accept that and make the best of it or go to another country where he fit in.

Trump might not be alive to call him meatball everyday.

None of this is relevant to anyrhing. The voters made it clear this week that they hate freedom.

This the correct answer. They need to figure out how to fix it with some transition to privatization similar to the proposed plan Bush presented in 2008.

They should lift the cap dramatically but also shift the tax up the income ladder. Just to pull numbers out of thin air, exempt the first $100,000 of income from the tax and apply the tax to income up to income $500,000. Or, apply the taxes to capital gains above a certain $$$ amount.
You just dropped social security tax revenue by about 80%.

Democrats are generally well positioned to be the less erratic party voters should trust to fix social security.
If only they could do math.

Desantis will never be president. Texas is lost and the only chance of an (R) president will be some borderline DIM like Younger from VA
No real conservative will win, just like we havent nominated one since Nixon. And dont say Reagan. He saw the greatest rise in deficit spending under any prez in US history. Debt tripled under Reagan. Tripled!! Plus amnesty.

Looking only at dollar amounts favors recent presidents because the federal budget, economy and existing debt are dramatically larger today than they were decades ago. For example, Ronald Reagan presided over a much smaller dollar increase than today’s presidents, but federal debt roughly tripled during the 1980s.

The idea that conservatives care about fiscal issues is just a myth to get people ideologically aligned with something that simply does not exist

Not true. Trump’s shite economy, the Iran War, and MAGA hand-picking a shite candidate like Paxton who was an anchor for all other Republicans lost Texas.

Disagree, conservatives can still win. Also, for what it’s worth, Youngkin is more conservative than Trump. He is more conservative on fiscal issues, was actually successful fighting woke (CRT hotline, banning CRT, etc.), and doesn’t think Bruce Jenner is a brave and stunning woman named “Caitlyn.”

This isn’t true. You need to make a distinction between conservatives and Republicans.

He needs to wait but not because of social security. But if he waits, I hope he runs for FL governor again instead.

Jesse is worried that if Trump doesn't pull out of his funk that the GOP is done.

I presume you're talking about completely removing the cap?
Yes, that is the position of many people in the dem party
They want to eliminate the cap but not increase benefits for those earning 180,000+

2) they sign a deal that lifts the cap on social security tax…resulting in a 12.4% tax increase on approximately 11% of upper middle class folks….voters will revolt
How about this idea: The government only increases the tax on the employer’s share of social security taxes. You lift the cap on Social Security taxes to over one million dollars and put the employer’s portion of social security taxes at a flat 15% of wages, bonuses, overtime, and tips.
The other unmitigated disaster is Medicare that dumpster fire is burning money away faster than a California forest fire. Premiums and copays need to be raised and possibly even taxes to right that ship. Not sure if switching traditional Medicare and force everyone into Medicare Advantage plans where the government pays companies a fixed cost per enrollee and let them handle administration of Medicare.
