In July 2020 I tested positive for Covid and had fever that progressively got worse over nine days and on day six of nine pneumonia blew up, which is when I was admitted to the hospital. That first day they started me on a five day regimen of Remdesivir and within six hours my fever was gone and I felt like I could go home on day four of five. I’ve had no issues since, not even a cold.

Remdesivir stops the virus from replicating so your immune system can heal but is not meant to to be administered for as long as they are giving it to patients. It also needs go be administered earlier than later. When my lungs blew up, they said it was due to a cytokine storm that is an immune response to the virus, not the virus itself so Remdesivir worked for me. I know others who were in the same boat and they had similar success.

What would concern me for your neighbor would be the fluid, which her kidneys need to be strong enough to handle. Also the length of time she has been in the hospital already. Best of luck to her and her family.

That sounds awful. The first strains of Covid seem like no joke compared to what I had in late December. Mine was just a lingering, severe cold with only two days of lethargy.

basically failed its clinical trial

This drug has failed with all the viruses it’s tried to stop.

Originally developed for Hep C, I believed…failed. Then tried against Ebola…failed.

Now finally being pushed for CoviD despite its lackluster performance in trials.

Woohoo!

What’s the word on the efficacy and availability of the new antivirals?

LINK

I’m not saying that if available that’s the way to go, but it might be worth investigating.

However, Merck hasn’t yet done specific research studying the antiviral’s effect against omicron. The company has previously found that the drug works for the gamma, delta and mu variants.

Studies of the antiviral have found that the pill reduced the risk of hospitalization or death for individuals with mild to moderate disease by 30%.

And, of course, Pfizer makes claims of 85-90% effectiveness...sound familiar? Kind of like some vaccines you may have heard of.

*edited to add something about availability
quote:

The U.S. has agreed to purchase about 3.1 million courses of Merck’s drug, most of which could be available to states by the end of the month. The government has purchased 20 million courses of Pfizer's drug. Allocations are expected to ramp up over the next several months, officials say, with at least 10 million courses delivered by the end of June.

June! Omicron will be long gone by then.

Doesn't do a thing for covid pneumonia. I was given three doses of remdisivir. Had absolutely no effect.

At the moment, my kidneys are ok.

I had Covid pretty bad and pneumonia was developing in both lungs when I checked in on a Tuesday. They gave me the same shite they gave Trump, Remdesivir included, and I walked out on Friday feeling way better.

I don’t doubt there have been problems with it, and my experience is simply my experience. My blood work a month later was stellar, no kidney issues, etc.

Take it for what it’s worth.

No one on here knows shite, and you could kill yourself, or do lasting damage, self-medicating on their advice. You know who knows? Your doctor!

She would do better with sugar pills or a frickin ZPac than Remdisivir. The only person who benefits from Remdisivir is the Pharmaceutical company and Anthony Fauci.

My mom was in the hospital doing very poorly with COVID. They gave her that crap and it did NOTHING. She ended up beating the virus, but it wasn't because of Fauci's pet drug.
