Correct.

So how does a politician like Trump account for this? How should Trump play the cards he's dealt?

To me his accomplishments are:

Securing the border.
Blanket J6 pardons.
Repealing Affirmative Action.
Terminating DEI crap.

What's hurting him:
The Epstein crap and lack of accountability and dismissive attitude about the subject (he comes off as a protector of criminals).
Constant fighting with Massie, MTG, Rand and Bobert.
Foreign policy spending.
Lack of execution on deportations and being quiet about it.
H1B visas.

Im shocked Biden isn't higher. He had a rocking economy with a period of painful inflation. Trump has turned it to a shite economy but still with the pain of inflation.

Government spending is not a “rocking economy.” It’s a fake, propped up economy. Deregulation is what was/is needed to have a strong, free, sustainable economy

From what I read there are only 200 jobs being impacted at that plant so not sure thats indicative of some larger trend from an employment standpoint or anything that would blow back negatively on Trump.

Overall the hiring data from the FED for O&G seems basically flat:
FRED: O&G Trends

I mean tech is getting gutted losing something like 80k YTD so that certainly isnt a positive indicator there.

Doubt we see much happen positively from a hiring standpoint in full time jobs until the onshoring starts to take place due to tariffs outside of domestic workforce improvements due to H1Bs going down 26% YOY.

Exactly what happened in 2024.

Bro could be 60% right now if he just literally paused all immigration, eliminated all but extremely special visas (and make them at a valuation that deters abuse , like 500k USD minimum salary), and let the housing market actually come back to Earth.

He chose the wrong horse (boomers) and now will be a lame duck come November.

For the conservative side long-term, he may have created a new youth counter culture that is counter to MAGA, also.

JD and Rubio aren't going to appeal to those baws, especially if they just double down on the same boomer (and older Gen X) -centric policies and culture wars.

That's not a good question. It makes this very polar and binary

It's a poll. They're pretty much polar/binary.

It's as if, this isn't a binary scenario.

Complicated stuff, I know.

This is a common phenomenon and I would not be too worried about it were it just one data point. Alas, it's not, and it bodes ill (for most of this board) in midterms.

But you responded to this, specifically. Not the polling data.

He is the most hated president of all time. It doesn’t matter if he does a good job. People that hate him will never agree that he is doing something right.

Kamala got about 48% of the vote, so that seems about right. I don’t see many of her voters switching to team Trump.

Younger voters are not conservative. They will vote for socialism because they are idiots and want something for nothing. I’ll be dead in 10 years anyway, so I guess I don’t give a shite.

I don't know why anybody is surprised by this.

When the average citizen is so uninformed and ignorant about economics that they think that inflation going down means prices fall, of course they think that Trump is failing.

And it didn't help that Trump promised to lower prices during the campaign.

Trump learned during his first term that making campaign promises helps you get elected. He either didn't learn or he doesn't care that the ones you know you can't deliver on don't help you stay popular.

The American citizenry is pretty much too stupid for our form of government at this point. Which is why the FFers never intended for voting to be universal.
