Their citizens voted for it 52-48 this last election. That was the first hurdle.

The second hurdle is simply a simple majority of Congress and Senate to approve it. With a 50-50 split in the senate, Kamala is the tie breaker. But it probably won't come to that- there's enough repubs who would vote for this just to get in good with the hispanic voters in their constituency.

It's coming. And if you are against it, you are a racist relic of the white nationalist shock wave that Trump sent ripping through the country.

God dammit man I don’t need those kinds of heart attacks on a Saturday.

We shouldn’t even have territories. We don’t need more states.

As someone who is 25% Puerto Rican, this is stupid.

My 92 year old Puerto Rican grandmother agrees.

She hates liberals.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this would require a Constitutional Amendment, yes?

Joe Manchin and Sinema arent voting for Puerto Rican statehood and Puerto Rico is a net negative on the US economy.

Why stop at PR. They will add Guam, Virgin Islands, DC as well. Lets get on with this breakup.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just saying the people in charge of the country right now don't GAF about the economy. Guaranteed votes > prosperity.

LOL, 90% of the population will be on food stamps and some other form of federal and state support.

I pray you’re right, but every indication I’ve seen tells me that Democrats don’t give one good frick about the economy anymore.

You are partially wrong. Puerto Rico will become the 52nd state in the US, not the 51st.

My understanding is that a state is not allowed to split into 2 states. Also, if there is a territory that wants to become a state and is bordered by 2 states or more, then the border states have to vote to allow the territory to become a state, such as DC. DC is not a territory, and should not be allowed to be a state.
