Champagne - You have to realize at this point people just want to complain about the RCC> Not that I have given up. But it doesn't matter, they want to interpret their words however they want consistently, and try to pull a "gotcha," against the Pope and the RCC every time.

That is quite true.

Pope seems OK to me as a person and I'm sure he is not a moron, but, I strongly suspect that he is on the political Left, and I do hate Leftist political positions and doctrines, because I'm convinced that Leftism will trigger a world wide catastrophe.

Why don't you read his remarks, instead of the inflammatory headline:

quote:

"Dear brothers and sisters, we cannot believe in Jesus and promote war. We cannot believe in Jesus and kill the innocent," Leo said in his homily. "We cannot believe in Jesus and abandon those who suffer, those who weep, those who flee from misery."

0% wrong with anything Pope Leo says here. Precisely zero.

The problem is the following:

1) The Vatican seems to make it a sport now, with the last two popes, in trying to make grand, philosophical statements knowing that...

2) The other sport being played is that every single word is used, mischaracterized by the media and it's minions - anyone wanting to stoke the fires of disagreement - that is uttered by anyone Catholic to make some point, point out some inaccuracy, or just get a "win," whatever that means.

To use the threat of violence as an outward means to an end, is not Christian. Period. To react with violence when provoked is a different thing. (I think this is what the Pope is referencing, just my guess, that promoting war to bully someone into submission is not Christian, is wrong. And - it is).

Now, as someone who realizes the world is not safe, the terms are not equal, and that bullies exist I can understand that these things need to happen. That a line must be crossed sometimes, as much as we don't want it to be.

I can both listen and understand the Pope's point, and believe it, while understanding that unfortunately, it's necessary - and I can try to move the world toward a point where it isn't.

But I can also believe, 100%, that the Pope cannot stand there and say the opposite. Or justify violence and war. He is speaking from an ideal, he is speaking from hope, he is speaking from being removed from those needs and just trying to articulate what we should aim for, not what is.

Here in the U.S. it is generally accepted that a POTUS' political positions are , more than likely, an accumulation of his ( not her yet ) staff of advisors' opinions. biden took this dynamic to the extreme. Does the Pope make, and promote, his opinions the same way?

Moslems by definition are not Christians, so he’s not wrong.

This is it and all of it.
Any organization who always has members that long dicks little boys, and has a documented history of protecting the offenders has no moral high ground.
If they burn them at the vatican for 200 years they may earn a shread of credibility.
If your catholic at this point you condone child rape at this point.
Its not even close.
Your collection dollars have either funded or protected a child rapist.
You can worship and be a Christian elsewhere.
Disgusting.

Why should I listen to you about "dogma" and "evidence" when you believe that Jesus wasn't a real, historical person, in spite of the evidence, and how you believe early Christians taught that Jesus was created from the literal sperm of David.

While you are busy spouting nonsense about the earth being 6000 years old or dinosaurs on the mythical Noah’s ark, you could be learning something about the Persian religion and the Persian emperor Cyrus and his agents Ezra and Zerubabbel who built the new temple in Jerusalem and installed the new temple authorities.

The Coming of Saoshyant
quote:

This passage discusses the events that will occur at the end of the current age, when the conquering of Angra Mainyu will begin to take place. Zoroastrians believe that an individual, called the “Saoshyant,” will usher in this era and lead the battle against Angra Mainyu. The Saoshyant is a savior-figure who will be born of a virgin, which the text calls “Gobakabu”. The text talks about her lineage and how she is a descendant of certain individuals. This is important for Zoroastrians because they believe that the Saoshyant will be a descendant of Zarathustra, the original prophet of Zoroastrianism. This text tells the story of how she will bathe in a lake and become impregnated with the seed of Zarathustra, which has been kept intact for thousands of years by angels. Then she will give birth to the Saoshyant.

Amazing how you seem to have no self awareness, and you will see no similarities whatsoever between the Saoshyant and Jesus.
