I may have to find a conservative Presbyterian church to attend or go to a Catholic church.

But, why? If Christ lives within you, why do you require the physical trappings of man to stay close to the Lord God?

I am guessing that the liberal Methodist churches have not read Leviticus 20:13.

Or Romans 1-26-27: "26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error."

Many reasons.

We're commanded to not forsake the gathering together.

We are given means of grace in the preaching of the word, prayer, and the sacraments (baptism and the Lord's supper) as helps for us to grow closer in communion with God, and these are given for the benefit of the church.

We are members of one body with many different gifts given for the mutual benefit of each other. We are to be involved in each others' lives to build up others and to be built up by others.

We are commanded to submit to and honor our ruling elders who are accountable for our souls. They can't shepherd us and we can't submit to them and be shepherded by them if we don't belong to a church.

There are many more reasons that could be given, but that's just a taste. The Church was built for our good for and or the public worship of our God. To divorce yourself from the Church is to divorce yourself from the means that God has given as a primary help in our spiritual lives. In short, it's not good for us to be on our own.

Didn't have to happen this way but sadly it did. Our church is "staying" but honestly, not one thing is changing.

You're a simp for staying. Grow some hekcin balls, man. What's the worst than can happen, you find a better church who doesn't promote homosexuality / paedophilia and make some new friends?

That’s what happened with the Episcopal Church. The only people left that still attend (that I’ve seen) are the elderly.

I assume this process will kill the Protestant churches in the West, because it’s very difficult, ideologically, to stop it. I hope Catholicism survives it. I assume the Orthodox will be okay, if only because they’re not Western, the Greek Church being the exception.

More congregations will likely fold if their leaders don’t admit what is happening. They like to punt things to the denominational level.

I watched a video of a black pastor on YouTube a couple of months back on one of those CNN-type "panels", where the host and other guest was aligned against him. Both were women, the other guest and the host. They mocked and laughed at him through the interview for his positions on the Bible and the Word of God. He said something that was like a hard punch in the chest. He said something to the effect of, 'I don't interpret or translate the Bible and the Word of God into something that fits my purview, I merely communicate it.'

FYI, that guy was Vodie Baucham. He's a fantastic preacher/teacher, look up some of his sermons on Youtube.

Mine was a short conversation with people I really didn’t know, so light on details.

My understanding was that if they wanted to keep their current location, they had to buy the property from the Methodists. Thus, the value of the property was a big factor in whether the congregation could afford to leave.

Amen. It's a shame he isn't Presbyterian, but otherwise he has great, Reformed and Calvinistic theology and can apply it to the everyday issues.

The progressives remain. Most that disaffiliated were for traditional Wesleyan teaching. Some went independent or joined other Methodist Churches (Independent, Congregational, etc.) but many went with a new denomination coming out of the Wesleyan Covenant Association called the Global Methodist Church.

A full on TUPLIP 5-point Calvinist Southern Baptist. Don't find too many of those. They wanted him to run for SBC president last time, but he didn't. That's a shame.

Also, retired United Methodist Church preachers can not attend or be affiliated with a disaffiliated church. Can not perform marriages or funerals for disaffiliated churches. It they do they lose their medical insurance with the conference.

While I think there are some great churches out there I'm good explaining to God at the end of my days why I made my own choices in a world full of self-interested religions and churches run by sinful, imperfect humans.

I've seen pastors having affairs with their flock.
Priests molesting children.
Priests and pastors stealing from their church.

When we die we don't get to say it wasnt our fault we were just listening to trans pastor Pat who told me this or that was ok. Our actions are our own, good or bad, so I reject wholly the notion that God requires us to submit to the whims of whatever church we attend or likely were born into.

God is within all of us wherever we are, he left his book as a map and the path we choose is our own, not the churches.
