One-Third of Basecamp Employees Quit After Founders Ask Them To Focus On Work Not Wokeness

About one-third of employees at software company Basecamp quit days after bosses told them to keep ideology out of the workplace and focus on the company’s actual business.
“We make project management, team communication, and email software,” CEO Jason Fried wrote April 26. We don’t have to solve deep social problems, chime in publicly whenever the world requests our opinion on the major issues of the day, or get behind one movement or another with time or treasure. These are all important topics, but they’re not our topics at work.”
Tech journalist Casey Newton said about one-third of the company’s roughly 60 employees took buyouts shortly after, with one fuming: “Basically the company has said, ‘well, your opinions don’t really matter — unless it’s directly related to business…’ A lot of people are gonna have a tough time living with that.”
Newton reported at Platformer that woke tensions boiled over after, in December, a new hire “volunteered to help the company work on diversity issues.”
This included criticizing the fact that for years, many employees had contributed to a list called “Best Names Ever” in which they placed funny customer names — of “the sorts of names Bart Simpson used to use when prank calling Moe the Bartender: Amanda Hugginkiss, Seymour Butz, Mike Rotch.”

What's wrong with that.

Sounds like the company got rid of a lot of dead weight and should be able to bring in people who want to work to fill the empty slots.

As it should be
First you go out and earn yourself a living with your own wits and labor.
THEN your opinion is worth listening to by someone other than your mother.
In not - you opinion is as worthless as a screen door on a submarine.

Sounds like the company just got rid of a ton of potential future HR issues as well as dead weight workers. Good move.

Yeah, sounds like they weren’t there to work, but to undercut management with their agenda

Is there a way I can contact these founders? I would love to thank them for having a backbone and hopefully starting a trend.

They can replace the 20 they lost with competent, focused employees and they’ll be a better company.

I was taught to "leave your personal problems at home, and leave your work issues at work".
I guess this is an old conservative motto, but it has worked very well in my life!

I’m living in clown world. This is exactly how it should be. If I’m running a restaurant I don’t ask the diners what their opinion on political matters is. I ask them how the food is.
And if I’m dining I don’t care how the chef voted, I care how well he can cook an omelette

Precisely
Just like any other product in life. I care if the product is a good product at a decent value. If the people disagree with me politically that's fine but I'd prefer to not even know about it.
