Denmark is the very definition of pipe dream utopia. They ride their little bicycles around and enjoy lounging around without a care in the world because they assume someone else will take care of their national defense.
That's why it took Literally Trump one day to overrun them in 1940.

I don’t fully understand our worry about Greenland.

Greenland: what is China doing there and why?
quote:
Chinese interest in Greenlandic infrastructure becomes clearer when looking at the attempt of Hong Kong-based company General Nice to take over the abandoned naval base Grønnedal in 2016. Here we see that when strategic interests are at stake, Denmark steps in.
Then-Prime Minister, Rasmussen, allegedly, prevented General Nice from acquiring the naval base, confirming Danish concerns about the prospects of a growing Chinese presence in Greenland.?[78] A similar situation occurred in 2018, when the Danish government was prompted to finance half of the airports in Greenland. This was a reaction to China Communications Construction Company’s bids to build the respective airports. This was another indication of the Danes not being eager to let Chinese involvement in Greenland grow extensively.?[79]
Finally, China has significantly invested in the establishment of research stations over the last years. In general, Beijing is determined to ensure it is a frontrunner in the Arctic, which closely relates to their objectives.?[80] To this end, Beijing aims to ensure that Chinese companies most effectively seize the new opportunities in the Arctic.?[81] The core of Chinese activities in the Arctic has centred around building a solid Chinese polar research capacity, with a specific focus on climate change. In addition, these research stations are essential for China’s civil-military ‘BeiDou-2’ satellite navigational system.?[82] In line with these ambitions, China has plans to establish a research station in Greenland. Back in 2016 the State Oceanic Administration had already signed an agreement with the Greenlandic ministry on the construction of a research station.?[83]
In conclusion, the void created when Greenland was given greater autonomy from central authorities in the Kingdom of Denmark and subsequently left the EEC was happily filled by China. Even though the Kingdom of Denmark remains responsible for foreign policy and defence, Greenland can now conclude international agreements with foreign states on its own. This raises issues for both the Kingdom of Denmark and the EU.

Thanks CAD.
Not deliberately.

If this was 958, I would be worried. I checked to make sure and it is 2025.

Denmark surrendered on the same day they were attacked by Germany.

It was all a bluff to get European countries to up their military spending.
I think we want UK, Germany, France, etc. to up their military spending… they matter, not Denmark

Trump has the opportunity to do something truly hilarious. While all their forces are out there defending Greenland, he should invade Denmark.

So this is a true story. I worked with the only Danish soldier in Afghanistan, at least at at the time. He must have been well into his 50s and was overweight. Nice guy though.

It also looks like a pretty strategic area if we are really worried about Russia.

They are trying to prove they are up to the task of serving as the eyes and ears and the first line of defense from the nasty Russians and Chinese.

I watched a movie once about Germany's invasion of Denmark during WW2. The movie lasted longer than the actual invasion.
The French held out longer.

Flights from the United States to Europe and Asia fly over Greenland or close to Greenland a majority of the time.. I'm assuming long range missiles would likely take a similar path, therefore, it is strategically important to the defense of our country.
At some point, the United States and China are likely to go to war against each other, therefore it is important to China as well, for both offensive and defensive reasons.
Perhaps Trump wants Greenland, perhaps he doesn't, but he damn sure doesn't want China to have it.

IS Ragnar and the Boneless commanding those forces?

Anyone that thinks Trump doesn't want control over Greenland is incorrect. Greenland has huge military importance for anyone that controls it and has their sights set on the USA or Europe.
Greenland is owned by Denmark. Denmark has the papers but has almost zero ability to defend Greenland.
It's like two year old with a muscle car.
This needs to change and of course China and the USA both would prefer it not end up in the others hands.

Denmark matters quite a lot actually because of their access to natural resources and the North Sea. Based on their location they probably strategically matter more than Great Britain and definitely more than France.

Have you ever found Denmark on a map?
I get it they’re in the middle of everything, but they’re closer to Luxembourg or Liechtenstein than France or the UK
