"To those warriors who this nation prays for every single day, I hear from all of you out there, who pray for them every day, stay on bended knee and pray for them. I continue to say to them, Godspeed, may the Lord bless you and keep you and keep going."
"We will stop at nothing to win. War is hell, war is chaos, and as we saw yesterday with the tragic crash of our KC-135 tanker, bad things can happen. American heroes, all of them."
"And as I have with all of them, as we have, we will greet those heroes at Dover, and their sacrifice will only recommit us to the resolve of this mission."

Why are we dependent on this? I thought Oil was produced in other places other than here?

It isn't very wide and ships can be reached by drones and remote boats loaded with arsenal. They still have fast boats, they also have an ability to launch some missiles. They have mines they can deploy. Enough to still cause havoc. Iran just can't muster a full amphibious assault any longer due to their navy being under water.

"Iran has plenty of cameras and plenty of voice recorders. Why a written statement? I think you know why."
"His father, dead. He's scared, he's injured, he's on the run, and he lacks legitimacy."
"It's a mess for them. Who's in charge? Iran may not even know. With every passing hour, we know, and we know they know, that the military capabilities of their evil regime are crumbling."

It's clear that there are trolls here. Don't expect them to debate in good faith. It's impossible to know what motivates their nonsensical ramblings. They'll deny that they want the US to lose the conflict, and then parrot the talking points of our enemy's propaganda. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are the enemy or work for the enemy. Personality disorders can have a similar presentation.

Two big issues remain-
Protecting shipping in short term. I think we will have to have a blanket of drones and aircraft patrolling looking for drone launches along the coast and slightly inland. Ships patrolling or convoying to screen for drones and remote control bomb boats. Depth of defense is necessary. It gives Iranians an opportunity to hurt our boats etc so some prep targeting may be needed ahead of time.
Regime forces. It will become harder and harder to target them physically. The hard liners won’t just fade away. Combination of needing ways to draw them out and for the citizens to take matters into their own hands. That will mean deaths but I don’t think there is any way to avoid that.
Now that this has been started I don’t think there is any way you can leave it half done. That just creates problems for the future.

We provide secure shipping of oil throughout the entire world in exchange for the world buying oil on the petro dollar.

It's not so much that we don't have/aren't producing oil, it has more to do with the global market since oil is priced on a world market, not just locally. So yes, while we have plenty of oil and LNG, it spikes prices for the rest of the world if the SOH's oil supply is cut off.

All of the weapons mentioned by Mario are also reported elsewhere.

Iran doesn't need surface ships to hold Hormuz. It never did.
The Azhdar UUV (unmanned underwater vehicle) runs at 25 knots, patrols for four days, covers 600km on a single charge. Silent. Invisible to most radar. Impossible to intercept from the air.
Combine that with swarms of cheap UAVs, anti-ship missiles, fast attack boats, and unmanned surface vessels and you have an asymmetric arsenal specifically designed to make the world's most powerful navy bleed in a narrow strait.
Sinking Iran's conventional fleet changes nothing about Hormuz. The US Navy destroyed 20+ Iranian vessels in ten days and the strait is still closed.
Because the real blockade isn't ships. It's the threat of everything else lurking beneath the surface and flying low over it.
Forcibly reopening Hormuz means sailing into that kill zone.
The math isn't favorable.

It will eventually be required if we want to reopen the strait. And it’s vital that we do so. The gulf states and the rest of the world will not continue to support our war if Iran proves it keep the strait closed against even the mightiest Navy in the world.
It will likely mean casualties on our side. It may even require ground troops on the islands in the straits and at certain points along Iran’s shore to set up layered air defenses and to deny the enemy to terrain to launch drone boats and planes.
