I don't believe that the economic damages you cite were inevitable "features" of the dollar centric global system. We could've used that privilege to invest dollars. Instead, over the decades we have abused that dollar privilege to accumulate excess public and private debt for consumption of excess discretionary goods. The question of whether the benefits of dollar dominance would outweigh the costs depended on how the system was implemented. Unfortunately our choices were not good and the resulting answer is no, not in the long term. That's where we are.

I agree that the moral hazard you identify is substantial. History, far beyond the U.S. case, offers ample reason to doubt whether any political system can wield such structural advantages prudently or for extended periods without distortion.

I think there is a political system that can achieve that goal. The system is free market capitalism. If supply and distribution of the currency is based on market discipline, I believe that system, over time, will allow for greater aggregate level and dissemination of prosperity than any centrally planned economy. Government and (maybe) central banking do have a role to play in that system but, IMO, those roles should be less of an arbiter of success and more of a caretaker of freedoms, i.e., closer to the role delimited by the US Constitution, which I think most can agree has been poorly (with some exceptions) reinterpreted over the last 240 or so years.

President Trump has summoned senior Pentagon officials and major U.S. defense contractors to the White House on Wednesday, according to the WSJ.

The meeting will focus on expanding munitions production and rebuilding U.S. missile stockpiles, which have reportedly been heavily depleted during the Iran War.

Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg warned defense industry leaders earlier this month to prepare for the meeting, which is expected to be tense, as Trump pushes companies to speed up production.

US LAUNCHES LEBANON CONFLICT MONITORING MECHANISM; ISRAEL-LEBANON TALKS BEGIN IN WASHINGTON

The U.S. has established a new CENTCOM-led monitoring mechanism to track fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in real time.

The move comes ahead of three days of direct Israeli-Lebanese negotiations in Washington, starting tomorrow, aimed at strengthening ceasefire enforcement and reducing tensions along the northern border

Reporter: Treasury lifted sanctions on Iranian oil today?

Trump: Well, I’m going to have to find out exactly the status. All that money is coming back in the purchases of food. They have 91 million people they can’t feed.

Reporter: You sure that the Iranians won't use profits from oil sales to rebuild their military?

Trump: They’re not suppose to be doing that.

How are we feeling about this lull fellas? Welcomed? Happy? Pissed?

Looks like JDV was able to get things back on track for continuation of talks.

The real reason Iran is negotiating SO hard on Lebanon & Hezbollah right now:
Their elite IRGC officers are getting wiped out in Lebanon.

Reports indicate more than 70 top IRGC (Quds Force) commanders and advisors — the people actually running Hezbollah’s operations from behind the scenes — have been killed by Israeli strikes. These aren’t random fighters. These are Iran’s best military minds, embedded deep in Hezbollah’s command structure, rebuilding it after the 2024 hits (Nasrallah, Radwan Force, etc.) and directing the current fight.
Iran spent years (and billions) building Hezbollah as its most powerful proxy. Now that proxy is costing them their own blood at an unsustainable rate. Targeted strikes on IRGC Lebanon Corps officers, hotel meetings in Beirut, and precision ops have turned Lebanon into a graveyard for Iranian military talent.
That’s why Tehran is suddenly treating a Lebanon ceasefire as a red line in U.S. talks. They need to:
• Stop the bleeding of their elite forces
• Save what’s left of Hezbollah’s rebuilt command
• Prevent total collapse of their “Axis of Resistance” influence in the region
• Buy time and extract sanctions relief/oil deals while they still have leverage
Proxy wars feel cheap and deniable… until your own generals start dying in foreign hotels and battlefields. Then the math changes fast.
Iran isn’t negotiating from strength here — they’re negotiating to stop the hemorrhage.
The human (and strategic) cost of their strategy just got very personal for the regime.

I wouldn't give the Iranians one inch until they can contribute one thing - just one - for the betterment of society. Why negotiate with an outfit such as this?

This is why you don't have a ceasefire when you are at war. See... Israel is destroying Hezbollah and Iran is more desperate to make a deal.

Breaking news: Scientist just discovered that it is possible to negotiate a truce while you are destroying the enemy. Who knew?

They are smart. They know the media hates Trump. Why not lie and give the media more fuel on Trump? They look like kings in the dealings as of right now. Their misinformation campaign throughout all of this was masterclass.

Honestly, as of right now it looks like we are punked and nothing changed at all. Sad…

Except for those 12,000 targets, killing 3 layers of their leadership including the Ayatollah, wiping out their navy and ballistic missiles, burying their nuclear facilities, etc. yep, nothing changed.
