Wrong. Stupid commie.
Police can use deadly force in the face of the threat of severe bodily harm.
You commies suck balls.

You are 100% wrong.
Their response does NOT have to be proportional. LE can always go a level up if needed. They are not required to meet force with equal force; if they did, conflict would always be 50-50.

Poor things. I hope they survived.

What was their beef with the cops?
It appears that there was a big snowball fight in the park, it looked harmless, and for some reason the cops were called in and they got pelted.

Gee I wonder what would happen if a bunch of honkies pelted the Sultan of New York with snowballs as he emerged from City Hall.....anyone?

Likely their mere existence.

Not sure why anyone would do be a cop in NYC . You’ll always be the bad guy and be treated like crap.
Because some were taken to the hospital for snowballs, no doubt long term disability claims, great way to get out of moedami (as in the three stooges) city work.

Are we talking about snowballs here?

Correct, but they most certainly cannot shoot someone who is throwing snowballs at them.

I dunno, but I would have paid good money to see it.

Also, this would be governed under NYS criminal statutes, and not the common law definition of assault.
Leave it to New York to bastardize the frickin lae and just get rid of battery and call it assault.
Also in reading the laws I did not see the verbal element - sheesh

Your ilk is vile, and violent.

I’m not saying I support the protestors but the last thing we need is a “Boston Massacre” Part Deux.
Best for police to just disengage and remember they exist to serve - this also means diffusing a situation when able.
The mayor could make an appearance denouncing this behavior. That opportunity was missed with the Minneapolis mayor, I think.
Nah.
They need to start shooting rubber bullets at people who do that sort of thing.
Either that or arrest them for assault & battery, which pelting someone who is not a willing participant with a snowball is. Especially if there's some hardening agent involved (a rock or ice). If I was randomly throwing snowballs at strangers in NYC, you can bet I would be arrested and charged.
When you allow citizens to do this to police with no repercussions it lowers the threshold and encourages more serious lawless behavior.

Might be time for a severe case of the blue flu.

NYPD force about to get a lot smaller. Who would want to work for that mayor in that cesspool that elected him? Wall it off and do a remake of "Escape from NY". Shoot it like a COPS episode. Whole country would tune in while simultaneously shaking their heads.

Imagine the backlash if snowballs were thrown at Muslim women wearing hijabs!!!!!
