Is there a post-illness test?

Seems like they could test for antibodies but not sure there’s resources for that right now.

, so we should find large swaths of the population with covid-19 antibodies but no active virus anymore if that is correct
Will that form of test be ready soon?

Which is hilarious given that we lead the world in ICU beds (by a long ways) and much ink has been used to say how we overspend with too much ICU access.
Pffft, nobody can overspend a Democratic controlled House of Congress!

Where'd you get this info? My wife works in the ER and has said they had a rough flu season. I'd like to point her to this info for her take.

While completely anecdotal, both my wife and myself had low grade fevers with respiratory issues lasting roughly a week.. wife tested negative for flu but the cough was persistent and unable to clear the mucus.. Unlike any cold weve experienced.. this was early January.. probably a bad cold but it was different

ETA ....neither of our kids came down with the cold we had

This explains the badass "cold virus" I had in early December and to a lesser extent in early February. Missed about 3 days of work in early December and 2 days in early February. The February one was much less severe and I could have gone back to work after one day off but still had a nasty dry cough so I stayed home.

Went to Emergicare (doc in the box) both times to get tested for flu and strep. Came back negative both times. They had no idea what the virus was. The doctor literally had no clue what the virus was. She said there was an unusual new strain of the cold virus going around this year and a lot of people had been in to get tested for the flu and almost everyone tested negative. Gave me a steroid shot and called in some medication to the pharmacy. I had a normal 100 to 101 fever both times. Typical cold and flu symptoms but the unusual thing I had never experienced was a long period of a nagging, persistent and at times violent dry cough for a couple of weeks after each diagnosis. Never experienced that before. I felt crappy for a short time with each instance but nothing out of the ordinary other than the persistent annoying dry cough that persisted for two or three weeks during each episode.

I'm almost positive I had the coronavirus already.

Btw, I'm a reasonably healthy 45 year old with no real underlying health conditions.

In other words, this virus (at least the strain of it I had) is little more than a bad cold/the flu and this freak out is way way way overblown.

I had all the typical flu symptoms last week except high fever. I tested negative. Looks like I’m now immune to the Corona boys! Time to go on a cruise

Sounds exactly like my wife and me. As I posted earlier, I’ve never been unable to clear my chest like this in my life. I’ve been tight chested from early January until the present, and just started feeling better the latest couple of days. I’m 54 by the way.

Thanks for the link to the data.

Where'd you find the story about epidemiologists reviewing this info and thinking it may have been instances of the virus?

How would this explain all the positive flu diagnosis during that time for the bump? We had two at least going full blast.

I got a rough case of the flu this year. It was the first time since grade school.
Probably mid-January. Wife and kids got it in mid-feb after a trip to NOLA.

What was really weird is that I'm never sick.
Missed one day of school, one day of college, and only a handful of days of work ever.

Jesus Christ, the dumb shits posting in this thread right now are the exact reason there are criteria to be met to be tested.

In the past 30 minutes 50 people on here believe they now have already had Covid-19

Well...the ones who got tested with no positive diagnosis may have.

That’s the point.
It might have already gone through the population.

I didn't ask to be tested, motherfricker.

In a month, they will have tested millions of Americans with upper respiratory symptoms. I guess, we'll see.

To your point, early reports are large percentages of symptomatic folks are coming up negative, so you may very well be right.

But - let's get down to brass tacks:

1. This thing is likely not as infectious as the fearmongers suggest. Certainly it may be "flu-like" and may even spread about like the flu, but it is not one of those, "I saw a guy on TV with the Wuhan flu and I caught it."

2. If 1 isn't true, then this thing just isn't lethal. It has run through the population and the bodies simply aren't stacking up.

I'm not seeing a 3rd alternative that has any data behind it. Sure, we could be very early in the spread of it, but I find that likely. The numbers aren't growing because it is spreading (IMHO), they're growing because we broke the logjam with testing the presumptive positives.

And the CFR is already under 1% outside Washington State. I'm not saying it is contained, but it appears mitigated. Fingers crossed these trends continue.
