Good for Natchez. Not because of the color of his skin but for breaking free of the democrat plantation and the policies that have destroyed small and medium southern cities.
FWIW, Monroe La elected a white independent a few weeks ago too.

I was waiting for someone to bring this stupid response. I thought you were smarter than that. None of them has done these things to the LEVEL that Trump has. You know this because you said, "Every Republican President has PUSHED.." and that's the point. They pushed things. They talked the talk but Trump has gotten more done for conservative causes than the last three Republican presidents combined. Trump is in a whole different stratosphere in what he has gotten done for us.

I've lived in Natchez and Monroe and both are undergoing very similar changes in local government. Both cities have so much potential and there is a lot of old money in both places. But yeah, the majority of the areas in both cities is just overwhelmingly depressing. People of every color can only take so much before they see that change is necessary. Monroe and Natchez are both riddled with extremely high rates of violent crime. Monroe pushed Mayo out after something like 20 years as mayor.

Natchez gets what it deserves. They’ve let old money chase away every bit of industry (IP, Armstrong, Fidelity, etc...) and stymie any opportunity Natchez had for new industry and growth (Toyota plant, WalMart distr center, etc...). They thought they were gonna make enough money off tourism that they could essentially kill the middle class and rule over their domain in their antebellum castles. Anybody with a brain could’ve seen this collapse coming.
All of this. This downturn has been going on for 30+ years. Natchez has basically been a retirement community for the last 20 since the jobs left. Unfortunately for Natchez there aren't nearly as many retirees left anymore

I hope Baton Rouge can follow suit. Baton Rouge is headed to become the next New Orleans as far as local politics/crime go. We desperately need either Carter or Watson to make a runoff and it will be interesting. I think many in the black community even recognize the need for change. With the expected heavy turnout in November it should give us a real good indication of where our city, state and nation is headed.

The lesson, as always: Turnout wins elections.

Wake me up when Jackson Ms elects a white mayor. Then, something is going on!

I was looking at real estate there. Beautiful homes that were so dirt cheap. There’s things I liked about Natchez but it didn’t match my needs. Seriously though 8 bedrooms and 5 baths for less than $700k is interesting.

Trump is moderate. The old establishment are Left-light.

Monroe just elected a white mayor for the first time in 20 years. Pop. is 63% black. White guy got 25% of the black vote.
This might justify why Rasmussen shows Trump at 42-43% black vote

Natchez is all downhill after Nellie Jackson died

This is perhaps the worst take on reality I have read this week.
Bet you cant name one actual thing old money did to make anyone leave can you?
Wal -Mart distribution center? Holy frick you are poor and stupid.
Natchez suffers from being isolated, no middle class jobs, and lower class white flight across the bridge to Vidalia shrinking the tax base.
All the old biddies in their houses and tourism are the only thing keeping it afloat.
