This was a couple weeks ago but is this a trend? Dan Gibson beat a black Democrat in the primary and a black independent in the General.65% He once ran for Governor of Mississippi as a Republican. When he ran for Governor in 1999 he would have made Trump look like a liberal.

Not to derail, but Trump is as moderate as it gets. The Left veered, and hard, in the last 20 years.

Good for Gibson and Natchez.

My guess is that people are tired of the same old bullshite and wanted to attempt something new.

Natchez is dying as of now and needs good leadership to help bring in jobs that are more than health care, tourism, or working at a prison.

It legit bums me out when I drive through there. It has the greatest potential of any other city in the south but it's just rotting slowly. I really wish there was a way to make an effective investment in that city.

It's a physically attractive little town. The little tourism it gets keeps the downtown area reasonably vibrant throughout the year. It seems like the type of place that should be well positioned to attract certain niche type industries.

There really isn’t from what I’ve seen.

I’ve got family there and the whole area is depressing as frick, but not as bad as Ferriday or Jonesville.

You're right. The population has dwindled below 15,000. It's become known as the gay capital of Mississippi. Gays from New Orleans have made it their hideout.

Seems like they sort of serve to stabilize the market in those old houses.

You guys owe me a coke & dry cleaning for the spew I just had. And a bigger question-since moderates are below Dims on your food chain, what does that make DJT?

My wife and I just returned yesterday from a weekend visit to Natchez. It was our first time to ever visit there and we were both surprised at how depressing it was. I'd say at least every other building/storefront was shuttered and for sale. Very few shops or restaurants. It was a literal ghost town. Only area that showed any signs of life was under the hill. We enjoyed our visit, but it was very underwhelming.

This is a stupid shallow comment all the way around.

Trump is moderate in the sense of where he falls comparatively on the political spectrum.

The "moderates" the board hates are the gutless ones who never fight for anything. You cannot say that about Trump.

A lot of delta towns with 60-80% black populations have white mayors. They’re white democrat mayors but they’re not ideologically democrat they are all Trump voters who run as Dems locally so they have a shot at winning and keeping the crazies out of office

Monroe just did the same and I’d say our demographics are comparable as well.

The challenge is going to keep the intelligent/motivated (there will be plenty of dumb/lazy ones) young people there to keep the town going and help to develop that. I think they’re out there though, young people that would love to escape the big city and live in a quiet, nice looking town and Natchez has that.
