If all that money going into Gore's "lock box" had gone into a well managed stock account, the pay-outs to retirees would be 4 or 5 times as much as SS.

If private pension managers managed a private pension fund like SS was managed, they would be in jail for fraud.

social security

You can't look at social security in a vacuum. You have to look at SS and Medicare together. It's a total catch-22. For the last decade or so I've been part of a large group of Americans having to deal with aging parents. Most of my friends are also in this group. What I've learned is that there are no good answers to life's problems in our elder years. There are only bad situations and worse ones.

What's killing our system is that the average person is living about 10 years too long, and it's our medical system that's responsible. Medicare is the enabler. People would never get this level of care if it wasn't free. I don't know how you even start this conversation, but keeping people alive just so they can be miserable is not compassion. It's also incredibly expensive. A person should not spend more in the last 10 years of their life than they made during the first 70 years, but they do.

Well 90 ( 3.7)was the year my first was born since your suggestion of me lying, number 5 was 98 and it was 2.78 so I’ll take that hit of under 3 so again it was over 3.2 for that 8 year period. Trying awful hard not to admit that your generation rather tickle a remote than a gal.

I've put a lot in over 20 years, but I'd take them shutting it down right now even if it meant that what I've paid in is gone. It already is anyway. It's been paid out to today's beneficiaries.

Social Security serves a purpose. It is important for millions of lower income people. Decide how to cut the high income earners out.
It will never go away because well: Social Security serves a purpose. It is important for millions of lower income people.

But they were not taking SS and had no idea whether they thought it was important or not. The oldsters who were riled up by the democrats at the time were the WWII generation.

Interesting stats from the Cato survey

18 - 29 = 47%
30 - 44 = 57%
45 - 54 = 75%
55 - 64 = 84%
65+ = 89%

So nearly half of the youngest subset agree with the boomers.

So boomers weren’t smart enough to see the problems even though they were in charge of the government? And because of that future generations have to suffer and solve the issue

Good grief, can anyone read my second post? Of course someone pays into a Ponzi scheme. Thats why I’m taking issue with the original article and Walsh claiming we don’t pay into it!

They won't do away with Social Security because that would mean doing away with stealing Social Security Taxes from your check every week.

Well maybe. They weren't the demographic who was concerned about this because they were out working their asses off and not talking entitlement one at that time. They were between 40 and 58 at that time. Not bitching about how they have been screwed and they want to get theirs. When you get old the politicians will use you for something to buy your vote. And you will get old some day.
But I hope you can be happy and wealthy like us.

Boomers did a lot more than beat the Axis powers in WW2. We financed, engineered, designed, and constructed the infrastructure that you use every day. I’m tired of hearing from Gen whatever bitching, moaning, and growning about boomers.

Grow up. Work hard. Get married. Have a family. Teach your children empathy and respect, especially for their elders, save, and live within your means.

Also, never vote for a demorat. And register Republican. Primary RINOs.

Once we have solid MAGA majorities in the house and senate, the United States will rock. And all Americans will benefit.

FACT.

We need to shut off all foreign aid.

You know that foreign aid (all of it) makes up roughly 1% of the federal budget, right? Maybe 1.5% during war time for an ally.

Shutting it all off wouldn't even move the needle.

It would be the difference in hitting a wall at 99 mph vs 100 mph.
