So boomers weren’t smart enough to see the problems even though they were in charge of the government?
You might be interested to know that Boomers didn't reach a majority of the seats in Congress until 1999.
Only 4 Presidents have been Boomers since they were old enough to be elected to that office. Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump. Less than half.
Starting from the year that SS was passed in 1935, the Greatest Generation had much more time in charge of the government, 42 years, 21 Congresses, and 8 presidents. The Silent Generation reigned for 22 years, 11 Congresses, but they only had two presidents (and one was Biden
The Boomers have been in charge of Congress since 1999, 27 years, 14 Congresses, and four presidents.
So you're blaming everything on Boomers, but they weren't the ones in charge for most of the time span we're talking about. They didn't preside over the creation of the welfare state, SS, they didn't start deficit spending and running up debt, they didn't take us off the gold standard, they weren't responsible (not in the sense of being "in charge," anyway) for any of the social or financial changes of the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s.
Honestly, if we're talking about Boomers actually being "in charge," really about the only thing I think you can hang on them is ramping up the quantity of US military interventions, but even that has a caveat.
We've engaged in a much higher number of separate interventions since 2000, but the number of US troops deployed has actually gone down. Because, remember, the Boomers weren't responsible for the Cold War and the proxy wars we fought as a result of it.
I find this to be pretty common. Young people say "Boomer" like it means anybody over about 45, and their grasp of history is so poor that they don't realize that the stuff they blame on the Boomers wasn't anything the Boomers did.
Most of them didn't age into being candidates for positions of real power until the mid-late 90s.

Boomers did not beat the Axis powers.
The whole reason they are called Baby Boomers is that people engaged in a lot of celebratory screwing AFTER WWII was over.
So I amend my earlier statement: It's not just young people who call anybody over about 45 "Boomers."

I like Matt sometimes, but I notice he has a lot of "hot takes" like this that totally seem to miss the mark. Of course social security is a scheme. It's a socialist policy, what else would you expect? But claiming that old people are stealing from young people? Does he even know how SS works? You have to earn enough work credits in your lifetime to even qualify for checks when you retire. They've had their money taken from them for their entire working lives, and now that they want their money that was taken from them, that makes them thieves of younger people? Why? Everyone is playing by these rules, young and old.
And I'm so tired of the "you boomers voted for this" argument. Is every "boomer" at fault? Do conservative boomers not deserve their money because liberal boomers voted for something that was bad? What's the answer then, Matt? Screw the old people, because younger people somehow shouldn't have to deal with what everyone else does? And by the way, didn't social security come before boomers existed? I don't get it.
And I'm Matt's age, so I'm not saying this from a senior citizen's perspective. I just don't know why he goes down these rabbit holes and tries to sound like some tough guy who's telling it like it is, but making no sense in the process.

How frickin dumb are you?
Boomers weren’t alive during WWII and were kids when this country’s infrastructure was built

This only happens in your head
Nobody thinks boomers are 45-60
You are not in touch with reality
No shite
If you would’ve read the conversation you would know that we were talking about 2006 when the president wanted to reform it and boomers could’ve easily got it done if they would have wanted to

Say you eliminate social security. Then what? There will be tens of millions of people that didn’t save for retirement. How will they survive? That’s right-a government check. They’ll just get social security under a different name, and you’ll probably be taxed more for it.

To be fair, we haven’t had a balanced budget since they took charge, and the deficit exploded.
