Wasn't the money initially in its own fund, then politicians decided the wanted that money and voted to add it to the general fund? Do I have that correct?

It was never in a fund. It finds its' way into the general fund and is spent. There was a time when it was in surplus for liabilities. They also spent that.

No they can't. One most politicians are old so no way they are going to kill something that will benefit them. Two, no politician would have a chance of getting elected if they ran on the promise to get rid of social security.

Actually I do as most of them are family and the rest are their friends. You think doordash went from basically nothing to a nearly 20 billion dollar a year company over the last decade because those evil old people are paying people to deliver their food? You may wanna check those demographics again. But you are correct that most of them at least have access to a 401k but they arent utilizing it either at all, or enough to matter. I do preach to them about needing to do so whenever I can though so maybe it'll eventually happen.

So what do you say to 35-50 year olds who are more successful than you at that age/married with great families, are literally the backbone of this country currently and still don't want to pay for your Boomer Luxury Communism

More of them are doing that than you would think. I'm just over 30 and started doing those things long before being 30 and a lot of other people my age did as well.

The big problem as stated by the CATO institute.....

quote:

US government did not save any of the excess payroll taxes the Treasury Department collected when Social Security was running a surplus. Instead, the US government turned around and spent those payroll taxes on other things.

I might add, making a headache a lifelong disability, along with get this one......autistic spectrum traits.

Thats right, we went from autistic, to autistic spectrum, to now autistic spectrum traits.

You know how they diagnose that, a person who takes two seconds to respond to a question. That means every man with a bitchy wife is now "in the spectrum".

Its amazing our govt forced companies to accrue pensions as they go.......while they spent our social security, absolutely amazing. And then pretend gooleee people are living longer.

Sounds like you raised shitty kids who have shitty friends.

Our kids and their friends are not like that.

But hey, my anecdotes are better than your anecdotes.

W Bush did but was blocked by congress

there is going to be like a 10 year period where the boomer will have died and millennials won't be close to receiving checks and will outnumber gen x where someone could make it part of their campaign

They fully support it and any solution they have probably wouldn't work anyway. Doesn't change the fact that you won't be able to get rid of it as long as you have voters that benefit from it and have people that rely on it cause they didn't do what they needed to in life to not. I'm in my early 30's so haven't paid into as much as most other people but if they do get rid of it I'm expecting a fat check for what I paid in.

Why? it's not your money anymore - its the 70 year old worth $5 milliion 's money who uses it for his country club membership

If they got rid of it tomorrow I'd be really happy and not expect a dime

It's not enough money for luxury. Follow the Ten Commandments. Honor thy Father and Mother. Otherwise, change it.

So you would be fine with all that money you paid into it going to fund what most likely would be another government welfare program at best

I believe that when you make it mandatory for me to pay into an entitlement, at some pt I should be entitled to a return on my investment.

not by itself but you had it to nice incomes and it add luxury to a lot lives

the program was started to keep old middle to lower income people from going broke, not to give upper middle class, rich old people more disposable income
