My mom would have been under the jail
Mine too, plus dad and grandmother. We'd be wards of the state.
And, that was at the peak of the Adam Walsh news cycle where our only sage advice was don't get in a car with a stranger, now, go outside and play.

This. 100% this.
Thats a lot of what is wrong with kids these days... Aren't exposed to anything and once they are, its sensory overload and they go off the deep end.

I’m on the command staff of a SO in rural GA. We periodically have lost kids in the woods, and the thought to arrest a good parent never even crosses our minds, or is even uttered. If the parents are laid up in the house, passed out on fentanyl, maybe, but a good parent, never. It’s my understanding this was a good mother.

Very easy on the eyes. They probably had very nefarious reasons for bringing her in!!
She wasn’t guilty in the first place but I say all charges should be dropped and awarded $5 million for her pain and suffering

I wouldn’t dare let my child walk alone, in town at night.

walked to a nearby town less than a mile from the family home by himself.
Literally did that M-F during 6th & 7th grade on the way to school. As did many others my age and younger.
And there were times I had to walk 3x that much when I was in HS.
And even older, before me and my friends were driving, we'd walk all over the place if we weren't using our bicycles.
There must be more to this story.
But then again, that kid does look like a standard gang banger, right? So I'm guessing that's probably it.

If you find the idea of letting a 6th grade kid go off from home illegal, you are a major part of the problem.
Well, I never said I think it’s illegal, I just think it’s bad parenting. I mean, bum frick Egypt towns in Louisiana are usually bad places, so don’t call me crazy for saying I wouldn’t let my kids walk alone to town.

Yes, a Karen probably from out of town freaked out and called the cops.
It's a small town, they all know each other. I will not be surprised when the one who later decided to charge her has beef with her or her husband from some high school BS.

Our middle school and elementary school are next to each other with a 0730 bell for one and a 0830 bell for the other. The bus doesn't pickup within a 3 mile ring of the school, so there are literally 100+ kids walking or biking to and from school alone every day in my neighborhood, including my own.

they'd drop charges if she agreed to put a GPS tracker app on her kids phone as part of the "safety plan" recommended by social services (according to Fox this AM)
So when the kid leaves his phone at home the next time he takes a stroll I'd assume someone at social services will be arrested since they are the ones now dictating the safety of the child?

Probably some Karen who had a petty issue with the mom. Thats usually how this works.

I honestly think giving a kid a phone at that age is bad parenting, but I'm an old fart.

Just to recapp...
Trayvon Martin, hooded figure, at night, staying at his father's place, gets asked who he is and what he's doing. Fight ensues, he gets off'd in self defense, it's racism.
This 11 yr old kid, in broad daylight, just going to a dollar store, less than 1 mile from his own home ...yeah, I see the threat here. Don't y'all?
Rich white kid thinks he owns the place. Call the cops! Arrest the mom!

Times change. If a kid is old enough to wander around like that, why not give them a flip phone. Something cheap and basic.

Because it keeps too many kids from going outside like that.
