I saw this story this morning. I was going to start a thread to ask this fundamental question:

How can a governor decide to do this without legislation?

We don’t need to teach civics anymore because it’s no longer working the way it is supposed to.

The state house and senate put a budget together, which includes funds for this action, passes it, and sends it to the governor to sign and make it happen.

State and federal governments no longer function the way it’s supposed to.

How can whitmer do this?

The only practical application of EVs that could really occur imo right now is post office vehicles, maybe. That would be something they could do, but even that is iffy.

Is there any law backing this demand?

When Trump reverses the EV and CAFE mandates, Detroit won't even be building these things.

This is corporate welfare to Ford and GM for building electric vehicle capacity for vehicles no one wants. They have over a year's supply of EVs in some cases at current sales rates.

This is unilaterally deciding to use Michigan (and probably federal, if they also get rebates) taxpayer funds to bail out automakers from their own stupidity.

Rural Garbage Trucks
Dump Trucks

Pretty much anything that has to haul any weight or move material is going to struggle mightily...

I read somewhere where estimates on a 300HP tractor was going to have a maximum 4 hour run time - WITHOUT any implements...

Michigan finna find out and be a case study for the rest of us.

I predict rolling blackouts in Detroit and other major MI metro areas.

She must have found out the Tesla truck was bullet proof. I expect Chicago will be next in line.

The folks who will be forced to use these vehicles will love it if the vehicles fail to perform well. These government employees relish the idea of having to spend hours of their workday charging a vehicle - beats working!

TBH, government workers sitting on their asses are less dangerous than ones ostensibly working.

Not reliable. Take the posted range multiply by 40% or less .....

She just hammered the entire state with an expense they are not prepared to endure ......Every location will require a charging station. Every vehicle charged overnight. The vehicles have eight times the problems that conventional vehicles endure. This means her entire fleet will be at standstill during every snowstorm ....they will use contractors to clear the streets during storms ....the snow plows will be sitting useless ....Better get the contractors lined up now .....

They are deliberately ignoring the fact that there is not enough grid infrastructure nor power stations to support the EV penetration levels they want.

If half the country had EVs the charging hours would have to be rationed.

because no leftist in government ever gets held accountable. "how" she can do it isnt really even a question to be asked anymore. simply being a leftist government official gives them the right to dictate as they please.

You would think people in Michigan would like to see more global warming and promote fossil fuels.

Gretchen is really stretching it here if she thinks they can just stop using fossil fuels in vehicles.
