In this particular instance... the dude was obviously deranged, obviously had a stockpile of weapons- assuming he lived with his family, there is no way they didn't know something was deeply wrong with him.
I don't know all of what they could have done or tried to do- but the kid didn't live in a vacuum.

If you look at what are supposedly his journals on X, it seems like he had a good relationship with his family. His family evidently went along with the delusions of him being a tranny degenerate. He needed a lobotomy, not being told he can dress in tutus
