I wonder which of the enlightened OT Moderates spammed that RA to get this thread moved to the PB once things started going downhill for their boy Mamdani.

Anyone who believes this, I've got some ocean front property to sell you in Utah.

What did NY state chip in, 8B?

Haven't looked, but know NY State chipped in 8B to help, but did Maldani still raid the rainy day fund and pension fund?

Do you agree with Mamdani on urban governance?

It isn’t clear yet what he’s actually doing in many areas.

However, on the issue in this thread, when a local politician gets money from state or federal grants, they can either use it to pay the bills or they can treat it as free unencumbered money to go into new spending. Mandani is putting money to the payment of bills. I absolutely agree with that idea on urban governance.

No he doesn't. He got a bailout from the state. It's a bandaid, not a cure.

Exactly.

But the budget is hardly a symbol of fiscal rectitude. It relies on billions of dollars in one-shot or short-term money to fund permanent programs, it stretches out pension payments so the next generation will pay for the retirements of present-day workers and it projects a $7 billion deficit for the 2028 fiscal year that will need to be closed just one year from now.

He was given BILLIONS by the governor.

Fixed. Also, the remaining “balancing” was done by increasing their estimated returns on taxes. They conveniently did not include estimates on loss of revenue by pushing those dirty billionaires out of the city. This is setting up for a huge downfall

And a complete and total lie. First it was a 4 year budget PROJECTION. Second the state of New York bailed them out.

His policies did NOTHING. He was bailed out of a nonexistent deficit number.

Undoubtedly, the accountants that crunch these budget numbers have a keen interest in making them look good.

Wut? There are accounting standards and if the accountants are "making them look good" that usually means some flavor of fraudulent reporting and the accountants could get themselves into trouble.

What incentives do the accountants at the NYC budget office have to lie outside political pressure from the Mayor himself?

Last I heard the state gave him billions. Does this mean NYC must pay it back like a payday loan or was it a gift from the democratic governor of the state?

$8B from state this year and another $8B from the state next year. A tree stump could balance the budget with that.
