but it’s the corrupt Republicans that have been screwing our state over for generations.
Generations?? Are you on crack? In the last 125 years, we've only had 21 years of Republican governors. We just had 8 years of JBE...a Democrat. This state didn't even start voting red for presidents until 2000, seeing as Clinton won in 1996 when other deep southern states voted for Dole.
Why do you just make stuff up?

Texas dropped theirs but you still have to pay for it.
What a state.

No politician in Louisiana is a conservative

Does the state really make that much money off the stickers and residual fines? Is the line item benefit THAT big that we just have to have it?
This state sucks and gets shittier every year

I mean it cost a lot of money to have environmental studies on the impact of all those potholes.

Everybody has a pet issue for their brother in law.
They literally brought in "mom and pop inspection sticker sellers" to tout as supposedly a valid reason to continue this ridiculous scheme.
Won't you think of the poor tax collectors?!?! What will happen to them?!?!

The governor had nothing to do with this as far as I know but you are correct that I was wrong about Republicans being in control for generations. It looks like Republicans have only had control of both chambers of the state legislature since 2011. I was wrong.

Texas eliminated the inspection sticker but you still pay the part of the sticker cost that went to the state 7.50. Its now just part of your registration.

Why wouldn't anyone think having vehicle inspections is a bad idea???

Safety sticker programs are a scam everywhere they exist

Aren’t we all so grateful for our small government conservative leadership?
People make threads bitching about roads and road construction projects.
How do you think that shite gets funded? With gas taxes, and the fees you pay to drive. Like your license and inspection sticker.
You can't have it both ways.

Need to find out what politician(s) who has a relative who prints the stickers!

The argument is there is no need to actually have them because cars are built safer now.
The argument for keeping it is because it's a tax they can't lose. It's worth about $14 million a year.
So it's not about the actual safety of the vehicle. It is about money.

No portion of the brake tags go to fund roads. Most of it is funneled into the state police pension fund.
It’s only around so crooked cops can hit you with another fine when they pull you over

Is that the state's cut. The reason they won't get rid of it is due to pressure from the mom & pop inspection places that derive most of their revenue from either their cut or sales from items needed to pass inspection. "Your back taillight is out. I can give you a fail sticker that's good for a month as long as you come back within that time with it repaired, or you can buy a new light from me and I'll install it for you.
Part of my covid protest against JBE was to not get a new sticker when mine expired in 2020. The key is to remove the expired sticker so that you can't get a ticket for an expired sticker. If a cop asks you about it, tell him that the glue that holds the sticker on is so crappy that your sticker came off and you don't know what happened to it.

Antique vehicles are exempt from inspection stickers. That means any vehicle was made prior to 2000 is exempt. How much really goes wrong with a vehicle in the first 5 year? That brings us to vehicles made between 2000 & 2020. What percentage of vehicles on the road today fit into that range?
I haven't looked at this year's bill, but past years' bills did not eliminate any laws concerning driving a vehicle that's not fit for the road. You could still get pulled over for lights that are out, or if you got pulled over and your windshield was cracked, you could get a ticket.
Let's be honest, what's the full checklist of an inspection? Lights, horn, windshield & wipers, technically I guess you could include brakes. If you're unlucky enough to live in one of 5 parishes there's the gas cap test for emissions. If you're not worried about insurance or registration, you're not worried about not having a current sticker.
Then you through in the shops that are known for not caring about certain things and pass everyone. I've had a cracked windshield for probably close to 10 years. I knew where to go that wouldn't care. So are we really benefitting from these inspections. What happens of my windshield gets a crack as I pull out from the inspection station. Don't have to worry about it for possibly 2 more years.

From WBRZ
For the most part, the cost is divided three ways: $4.75 to the station performing the inspection; $4 goes to Louisiana State Police; and $1.25 goes to the Office of Motor Vehicles.
That revenue adds up. Louisiana State Police's portion of one year stickers and CVI stickers is about $3.5 million. LSP's portion of two-year stickers is about $8.75 million. The OMV's portion of CVI and one-year stickers is about $1.2 million and its portion of two-year stickers is about $2.7 million.

The governor has nothing to do with the corruption of this state? I submit Edwin Edwards as exhibit A.
On another note, I do commend you for admitting you were wrong though. Have an upvote.
