The British govt should be banned. How many children have to die before you agree? I mean...if it saves just one life...

I don’t believe there is a justification for barring the parents from taking the Italians up on their offer.

Terrible situation.

When a nation votes for socialist healthcare they are letting the government treat their lives as algorithms. Treating Alfie hurts their bottom line. I disagree with it whole heartily but at least i can see their logic and that this is the inevitable path that socialized medicine will take. What is completely baffling to me is that they denied the right of his parents to leave the country to seek treatment elsewhere at no cost to Britain.

Socialist countries always end up pointing guns inward at their own citizens. you can't have a socialist utopia if everybody leaves.

Why are you asking liberals to explain this?

Perhaps this question should be addressed to the English Conservative Party, which is the party in charge after all.

Perhaps they are just like conservatives here and don't want people to have access to healthcare.

Liberals only care about lives of children when they are being murdered by white men with guns.

Look at the history, it's been proven over and over again.

this sort of thing is the inevitable outcome of socialized healthcare. The government is treating him like an algorithm...it hurts their bottom line.

Let's see all the receipts where you voluntarily helped someone with their health care expenses.

You always hear this argument, and yet never see an actual example - because it's largely fiction.

On the other hand, we currently have a shining example of the problems/evils of socialized medicine. We also frequently see similar scenarios occur to our north in the pretentious country of Canada.

I sure hope conservatives jump on this and put the fear of God in the American populace.

It has long been my hope that leftist ideas destroy Europe first while we take notes from across the ocean and decide to go a better direction.

When progressives say "access" they mean "free".

Lord knows you suck at actually answering a question

you are doing great at instead deflecting to a different issue entirely, so kudos for that

can you at least admit that this is a massive overreach of government power? Based on the thread over on the OT on this issue, it seemed everyone was at least on board with that.

An example: I had a patient with severe scoliosis that she couldn't cough properly to clear her secretions. She required home suction and a vest which produced an artificial cough so she could clear those secretions. Her machine malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. Her insurance has changed at one point prior to the malfunction but never had a lapse in coverage. The current insurance said they wouldn't repair or replace the machine as the old insurance bought it. The old insurance said it's not their problem because she isn't on their policy anymore. Family went back and forth between the two companies to get this needed therapy for their kids. Regardless she went weeks without her equipment. She ended up developing a pneumonia became hypoxic went into cardiopulmonary arrest. In the ER they were able to get her pulse back but she had been hypoxic for so long she developed hypoxic encephalopathy (severe brain swelling) her brain swelled so much it didn't fit in her skull and she herniated her brain stem. That pressure left her brain dead.

These things happen. They don't always make the news.

Also this isn't a problem of socialized medicine. It's a UK issue that the court can decide on what is in the best interest of a child over parental wishes. Notice how you don't see this happen in other countries with socialized medicine.

Their laws should definitely be amended. I would expect much public support for an Alfie Evans amendment.

Their laws do allow parents to choose medical care. But their laws also take the position that when a doctor disagrees, the decision is settled in court where both sides present evidence to a judge.

They also need to give parents another right - the freedom to take custody of their own child.

6.52PM Brit time: Court of Appeals has denied the parents the option of taking the child to Italy. Has to stay in Britain to die. SMH....

This is why the 2nd amendment is necessary. These people aren't even free to provide care to their dying children because the government wants to dictate what they can and can't do.

I say we give him American citizenship and go get the little guy. I can take 1 team in and have him out of there inside of 15 minutes.
