Would be interested to know what crimes he committed.
Otherwise I’m not sure his guy is who I picture when I think of our immigration problem.
Our immigration problem starts with the fact that that our social safety net is blowing up the budget. We can't afford the services we offer to US citizens, much less non-citizens. This man may not be drawing social security, but what about health care costs, or old age care?
Does he have enough savings to pay for healthcare, housing, food, transportation, everything he needs for the rest of his life? Did he father children here who, along with their children, now require govt assistance programs? We have to disincentive illegal immigration to help get social welfare costs under control.

All ICE has to do is just hang out at the Racetrac and Super1 on Ambassador between Dulles and Eraste Landry and they can bag them a lot of illegals using their Louisiana purchase cards, not speaking a lick of English.

So, whose Social Security number did he steal?

I'm all for second chances in life, hell, third chances even...
but if you are trying to become a citizen of a new country, probably a good idea to stay away from crime. That said, this is one of the outliners here compared to all the hard core criminals, but the Dems will pounce all over this as if this was the normal....They mislead the american public so bad it isn't funny.

Good, they all have to go back.

Should have spent the time on citizenship.

And, this is precisely what the Cubans got Maduro to do with some of these Venezuelans.

Because of his earlier troubles, Rodriguez wasn't able to become an official citizen

I don't care how old or how many kids an illegal alien has. They lived in this country, took advantages of its services, utilized its resources, and relied on the honest citizens and LEGAL immigrants to provide for them. Roads, Healthcare, Police, Military. I have zero sympathy. zero.
Apparently the guy made a better life for his kids. That's honorable. Better than a lot of criminal migrants have done but that doesn't make him any less guilty of breaking the law.

I’m sick of these sob stories. Bottom line is, here’s here illegally.

official citizen
This new bastardization of language by the Left drives me crazy. There are citizens and non-citizens. There are no "unofficial citizens." Words have a damn meaning.

He struggled and made mistakes, paid for them, and for the next 43 years lived a good life, raising a family and working hard labor for 40-60 hours a week, paying taxes and paying into Social Security, which he never used. She did not elaborate on what kind of trouble he got into all those years ago.
It takes a lot to lose your residency and not be approved for citizenship.
quote:
"We thought once he paid his time, once he did everything that the authorities asked him to do, that was it," Riggs said. "Nobody told us he had been put on a removal list."
So he did something causing him to lose his residency and get a removal order. There's no way he didn't know he had a removal order, especially if he had an attorney.
I hate these "sad stories" that don't do anything but alienate moderates once the actual facts come out.

The Cuban Adjustment Act allows Cubans who have been living in the US for a year to apply for a green card. He was given a chance at US citizenship on easy mode but screwed it up somewhere in his first two years in the US.
You can't commit crimes during that period, which he apparently did.
Sorry not sorry

Whatever it was, it was bad enough to not be overlooked. That is enough for me.
Goodbye!
Goodbye!
