Jimbeaux is correct that this office was responsible for election machines, qualifying, ect.
What’s idiotic, the new clerk’s office (which New Orleans voters voted into office) the former civil clerk (now Orleans parish clerk of court) is still over elections, still accountable to voters of Orleans parish.
I mean, I don’t get why New Orleans is going apoplectic over it. The responsibilities are still under a New Orleans elected official.

Landry pulls stunts like this because he knows he can bamboozle credulous yokels like you from paying attention to the fact that our state is last in everything and he has done nothing to add jobs or fix the insurance crisis that him and his PI scum created.
He knows all he has to do is trot out an imposter, emaciated Mike the Tiger at an lsu game or some such and people like you assume the position on all fours.
The city was definitely wrong here to indict especially in the fashion they did but this is exactly the sideshow Landry wants to distract from the fact that he has done absolutely jack shite as governor.

Now we get to watch the supremacy clause go into action. New Orleans decided to pick a fight with a strong governor, and by strong I mean his office’s legal powers under the Louisiana constitution.

Judge Leon Roche of the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Probably June 30th…late June.
I’m not saying if it was proper procedure, but going criminal seems extremely excessive versus going to a civil court over this.

Before we pronounce Williams "very smart," let's let this play out and see who was involved in developing and implementing this crazy plan. Because whoever came up with it is sub-room temperature IQ dumb. I'm just shocked there weren't some sane people on hand to put a stop to this.

Cities in the state of Louisiana exist as entities only through the authority to do so being delegated by the State. They can claim otherwise all they want, and even try to arrest an AG for warning them against trying to behave as their own city-state, but unless the state government were to fail completely it's always going to be an extension of the state and subject to certain laws because of that.

I agree with all of this. It’s a fair assessment.
But what I posted is objectively true. What is also true is that Landry fought against tort reform so his greasy PI lobby can chase more insurance carriers out of town and push the burden onto taxpayers. Yall think about that next time you’re paying your latest jacked up premium

Landry reluctantly signed some tort bills on auto and more on property also did a compromise to end the legacy lawsuits he is still too tied to the trial bar but better than JBE. A lot of good things are happening economically in the state LSU is in a much better position with Landry than JBE HE has been great on crime and Troop NOLA has been a great success The port expansion is moving forward. Tulane Charity moving forward the SKC is going to be renovated Omni Hotel will happen airport expanding etc . The state is forcing NOLA to change even though they fight it. It would be great for the state to take control of the FQ. Landry is far from perfect but a huge upgrade from JBE. Maybe we could get a strictly business no side antics governor next but I doubt tbere js a candidate out there that could beat Landry and I certainly don’t want a Democrat back in the govenrors mansion .

I looked deep into this story. His name was initially brought up because someone called into a tip line with a $1000 reward naming him as the preparator a few days after a segment about the crime ran on TV. Another female caller on the tip line months later claimed he had moved to Oregon and was working in the job corps there under a fake name.
The witness to the crime whose boyfriend was shot to death identified Duncan out of a photo lineup from a picture of a juvenile arrest of him 4 years earlier. She then identified him again in a live lineup.
He did in fact flea to Oregon and was arrested there. He claimed that when his Aunt told him he was a suspect in the crime, he went out there to get work to raise money for his defense. It's all quite a bit sketchy. Innocent people usually don't run like that. But it's possible. Innocent people usually don't have people calling their name into a tip line for murder and then identifying where they are too. And innocent people aren't usually then identified by the witness at the scene. Now, maybe this guy was just the most unlikable and/or unlucky SOB out there to have all this bad fortune, but all of that together seems telling.
It sounds like he got off on a technicality due to a new law that allowed people who had previously taken guilty plea deals to get off. Two of the investigators also had their own issues with withholding information and having inconsistencies with certain things that helped in the push for him to get off. But all of the other facts were still the facts and a jury found him guilty too (and he lost a ton of appeals before then).

The City and economic development groups, not Landry, were the driving force for most of these. The city did all the key negotiations with Omni to secure it for instance. I’ll give Landry credit for Troop Nola which has been a big help, although I’m not sure how reducing the number of criminal court judges and prosecutors is supposed to help fight crime.
