My buddy works in the hotel industry and told me they will be required to pay up to $33 an hour for all employees.

$25 base and an $8 benefit for health insurance.

Said all the cost will be passed to the consumer through increased prices.

So, $25 / hr. Every full time employee has added benefits such as health insurance , social security match, etc.

If they don’t offer health insurance, they’ll have to pay $8 extra to their wage.

Was it officially voted on? I know it was floated out there

Well duh. Unlike fast food, hotels can't pivot to automation in most aspects. I remember after $20 min for fast food passed, Pizza Hut laid off like 2k delivery drivers.

Californians - everyone deserves a living wage!

Also Californians - why is everything so much more expensive here?

LA is raising the minium wage in hotels and the airport in steps to fleece guests for the 2028 olympics.

I guess health insurance requirements are for full time employees and hotels (and just about every other industry) try to wiggle out of this by not letting the employee get 40 hrs a week.
Maybe that is not such a bad add on, because I have seen too many companies limit time for employees just for that.

Yeah. I asked my buddy about this and he said they can’t. They need all the workers that they have operating at full capacity.

No plans to lay off or cut hours.

Just googled this and the minimum wage in LA county is going up to $18.47 on July 1, 2026, not $25. Still, that's pretty high.

There is legislation somewhere out there with what he is talking about, which is why I asked if it had passed.

The increase works very well for state and local government as the rooms are taxed at 20%. Taxes automatically go up with room cost.

OP is correct, this was a separate measure for hotels and the airport specifically.
