I'm not for it but the anti CCS crowd is 99% nutcase with fake claims.

Also, you can drill through such a layer just like an aquifer or less commercial pay zones.
I’m telling you. It’s going to condemn the fields. No one is going to chance drilling through the plume. It’s all a scam that’s going to hurt future oil and gas production. I’m already hearing that directly from a few smaller operators. There was a group that recently pulled leasing on some Austin Chalk acreage in CENLA because of this.
While it might (might) be safe theoretically, the public is not getting the full story.

Is this process independently profitable for the energy companies?

For the majors doing it, yes. It will generate a huge amount of tax credits.

There are still well bores that haven’t been plugged. This should be interesting if they start injecting.
I believe a COA for a Class VI permit approved for sequestering CO2 is the permittee is obligated to plug all inactive wells, and even re-plug some that were plugged many moons ago before stricter standards were put into place, within the proposed plum model of the project before injection of CO2 can begin. So to prevent any CO2 that MIGHT migrate into the zone of the old wellbores from escaping back into the atmosphere.

I didn't know enough about either one to know who to vote for, but after seeing that Landry endorsed Letlow, I will be voting for Fleming.
