Whitlock is probably the premier black sports writer in America.

It’s hard to be me at a modern mainstream media company. The things that define me are under attack. Social media has prioritized race, gender, sexuality and political ideology well ahead of God and country. The mainstream media’s addiction to social-media traction does not comfortably accommodate someone with my beliefs speaking my truth.
Social media defines my values as outdated, no longer healthy or useful. Major corporations, the lifeblood of the mainstream media, operate in fear of algorithms that act as social-media lynch mobs. The punishment for failing to stick to the secular values promoted through social media is career execution by lethal algorithm.
Everyone must pretend Saints quarterback Drew Brees said something outrageous and indefensible when he stated he would never agree with anyone who disrespected the flag.
I can’t do it. I can’t participate in the character assassination of anyone based on such an innocuous comment.
Everyone must pretend the police are executing a mass murder plot on unarmed black men even though there were only nine such incidents in 2019.
I can’t do it. I can’t demonize a group of people based on the isolated actions of a few.

So you mean to tell me that not all black people agree lock-step with a bunch of skinny jean white liberals?

That should have been the moment this whole thing jumped the shark, but nope, full steam ahead.
Good to see that some people still have some sense.

I have a feeling there are way more of these individuals who’s personal situation has not enabled them to speak out.

I’m surprised the fat frick had the balls to walk out on a big job.
I seem to recall an apocryphal story of former Kansas football coach Mark Mangino tearing him a new a-hole and he just started on a mealy-mouth bullshite story about how being called fat hurts.

That’s bigotry by definition. Unless the loons were able to change that definition too.

We will see in November. They can take your social media voice and silence it, but they can't silence your vote... yet.

It's ok chubs, you can stop pretending to not be an over weight train wreck on the internet. Now wipe that sauce out of the corner of your mouth and show some self respect.

Trey, this reminds me of a conversation I had with a brother back in 2011.
This guy had a 1-in-a-million background. He had been an infantry soldier (enlisted), completed his education, got ordained and then commissioned as a chaplain (I maybe messing this up - he may have been initially commissioned in the infantry, but not the way I remember it) - so he was whiskey drinking, cigar smoking, motorcycle riding protestant chaplain. We were at a military school one summer and he took me aside - he said, "Okay, full disclosure - I voted for Obama in 2008. You know why I did it and I know why I did it. So, tell me honestly, who are the Republicans going to run next year."
I told him that I wish I had better news than my conclusion that it was going to be Romney. He said, basically, "Well, he has to be better than the guy in there now."
That was my first direct, in-person experience with Blexit. All the other black conservatives I'd known before were generally lifelong Republicans. The concession that he voted for Obama solely out of a sense of racial obligation was the eye-opening part of the conversation for me.
He was a guy you want on your side in a fight, too.

Yes, and the leftists tell them to shut up and get to the back of the bus.

But the reality is the truths I explore/discuss/debate are problematic for organizations justifiably controlled by fear of social-media whims. It’s like running a race against a head wind while your competitors have a wind at their backs.
Fear of social media is a head wind slowing the progress of truth. In order to win the race, I have to work in an environment free of fear.

Well, this buoys my spirits. Finally , a sportswriter, and a black one at that, officially leaves the Fundamentalist orthodoxy and stands for Critical Thinking and against Collective Guilt. God bless you Jason Whitlock. Free Speech just renewed itself a tiny bit today.

That is a great read. Always nice to see some sanity in the media.

I can't wait to see the anti Clay Travis dweebs melt over this

I don't recall Whitlock ever being in lockstep with the narrative. I've always like him for his candidness even if I didn't agree with it.
Good for him for walking away from that horse shite.
Clay could walk out of this with some big hitters if he plays his cards right. Two guys that DGAF about being PC is going to be fun to watch.
