Guess I'm stupid and missing whatever the joke was supposed to be. But no, holidays are not finite. They can be made up at will and there is no limit to it. Americans spend too much time at work as it is, I have zero issue with having more of them.

Teach me how to have infinite holidays and I'll join your cult.

Growing up in Bogalusa, we had a different name for June 19.

The freeing of slaves ought to be celebrated. Get rid of some other holiday (looking at you, MLK) and let’s embrace it.

I said this in 2018. I even suggested that Trump put it forth.

I think we have a problem with celebrating Juneteenth, which is a stupid word for a holiday, because we have a problem that not enough of the celebrants are working.

Dump fricking pride and black history month, which are weak as frick and way out of proportion, and let’s celebrate the end of slavery.

Caveat: it can’t be a blame whitey day. Celebration of freedom only.

Your post reminds me of this past weekend when I visited OKC and went to the First Americans Museum (Indigenous peoples). Beautiful building but not much in the way of traditional Indian memorabilia or displays. Most of the museum was artwork, projected presentations with a narrator generally blaming Europeans for destroying the First Americans Utopia......the museum would have you believe all the indigenous people were living in harmony and bliss until the Europeans destroyed the continent and the First Americans.

But what it traditionally has been in Texas is pretty wholesome and it's a worthy enough basis for a national holiday IMO

I grew up in Texas. Traditionally, it has meant nothing in Texas. The first time I remember it being mentioned was during the mid 90s when blacks were doing the whole "african pride" nonsense and some kid wore a shirt with it on it. Beyond that, Juneteenth was never mentioned, even by blacks.

It’s on arguably the worst week day to have a holiday. Kinda dumb but whatever.

This doesn’t make sense. Why would you hold onto dead bodies until the end of the voyage?

I thought EBT pay day (First of the Month) was the national holiday for the Brothers and Sistas. I guess you are ok with Black National Anthem as well.

My issue with Juneteenth is that contrary to popular belief, the North HAD slaves too. And Slaves in the Union were not all granted their freedoms until the constitutional amendment passed after the Civil War had concluded. So technically only the Confederate state slaves were freed by the emancipation proclamation as a Union war strategy against the South.

But those are not very popular facts to float. Will actually piss most people in America off if you correctly remind them that like 1/3rd of every Union State still had slavery until AFTER the Civil War was already over.

Therefore the mainstream revisionist narrative that 90% of all Americans believe as 100% truth is that Juneteenth officially marked the end of all American slavery and that ONLY the South had slavery are what must be accepted as the ‘facts’ now!

I don’t have a problem with it but FFS change the name to something respectful. Juneteenth sounds like it’s a midtown music festival or minority Spring Break beach trip.
