Not me. It’s was apparently a bank holiday last Friday AND today. Maybe it was a bank holiday for the payroll company’s bank last Friday, and for everyone else today. Either way it has resulted in people bitching about payments.

From the perspective of America, the act of freeing the slaves should be commended.

But the effects of doing it have been awful and celebrating it feels stupid.

I actually have too, and if nothing else, it celebrates a real event, not a made up one or one based solely on legend like say Kwanza or Christmas.

Downvote away.

When was the last time a black person came up to you and thanked your ancestors for DYING to free them from slavery? Never.

And why do democrats never do anything to stop the slavery that is still occurring in the world. Africa, China, and the middle east have lots of slaves?

But I guess they only care about the ones that came to America.

Slavery is a horrible institution and all people should work for its end-worldwide.

Never heard of it growing up where there are actual slave descendants, but whatever.

The freeing of slaves ought to be celebrated. Get rid of some other holiday (looking at you, MLK) and let’s embrace it.

I absolutely agree. I hate the name because it sounds like something an illiterate would come up with but we should celebrate the ending of slavery. Since this was, supposedly, the last group of slaves to know they had been freed it's as good a day as any to celebrate.

Also the more federal holidays there are the better because it's one fewer days the government can screw us over.

Did she honor the Irish that were brought over on slave ships, also were more expendable since they were free to the captors?

That the blacks were at the very least, every bit as much of the aggressors with regard to violence as the whites were. It wasn't this completely one-sided white aggression and slaughter of sweet innocent flourishing black people. Essentially that was the gist. It has been at least a couple years since I watched it. Will check Rumble. Maybe it's still up there.

In before wack. Not sure why, but Juneteenth threads are getting murdered swiftly.

He whacked mine last night when I complained that Siri tried to shut off my morning alarm in observance of Juneteenth. I told Siri to frick off, and she shut my alarm off anyway. So I had to manually reset it. To make matters worse, at my Dr's appt this morning, scheduled back in January, they coded today's visit as a Holiday which incurs an additional fee to the insurance company. Let's see if they pay that or get get a bill for it in four months. I didn't get the day off work, Home Depot isn't having any sales, this isn't a real holiday but they are pushing the shite out of it. Declare it a holiday and let the people decide. Don't try to force me by fricking with my alarm clock and charging me extra at the dr's office. Yes I'm glad slavery is over.
