Texas has been run by chamber of commerce republicans for the last 35 years. Being very business friendly led to the “Texas miracle” and moderate voters appreciated that.
But they’ve drifted off into issues the average voter sees as either a waste of time and taxpayer money, or extreme.

In the 2024 presidential election, there were 1.5 million more republican votes than democrat. Hard to believe 4.8 million people for Kamala in TEXAS.
It was closer in 2020 when Trump ran against the potato, 5.8 million to 5.2 million. In 2016 Against Hillary, it was 4.6 to 3.8.

It's very hard to square this with Hinojosa being ahead of Abbott when no one has heard of her, he has way more money and Abbott has been generally successful. It makes no sense. (I could see Paxton underperforming the generic because he's a bad candidate.).

I get why so many on this board trash Talarico, but he’s well spoken. That might have been nullified by Cornyn in the general election, but I checked in on this race the other day and for the first time saw where Texas could go for Talarico based on how the candidates are presenting themselves. I understand the gaffes that the guy makes but his soundbites are much more likely to rally his base than I see for Paxton.
I don’t support Talarico, but just my realistic perspective based on very brief observations of the candidate. A lot of it does depend on how much Republican turnout occurs in light of a buttressed Democrat electorate from when O’Rourke ran.

In damn near every Texas poll I’ve seen, Abbott leads Hinojosa and Talarico leads Paxton

Either the polls are almost all trash or is a real down year for republicans. Republicans won the last 2 senate elections by 13 and 16% but poll show moody up 6% on a communist democrat. Polls show Donald’s in a close race for governor. I think these polls are trash . But we’ll see on election night . Hard to believe the Florida senate race won’t go to the Republican by atleast 10% . On primary night the democrats news were shocked and not happy the communist won . What’s helped Florida become a solid red state is the Spanish residents that came from communist countries .
