The Joke: The label at the bottom was maliciously or humorously changed from a tsunami wave height metric to "Feces Concentration (PPM)" to fool people on social media.

They interviewed a Indian lady from a lower caste living in a nearby village. When asked about where she does her business, they lady simply pointed off in the distance with her hand. Apparently there is no such things as toilets in the home - at least in a model resembling anything like that invented by Mr. Thomas Crapper. When someone got the urge, they just went outside and walked a distance to "the place".

Based on the direction the lady indicated the interviewer/videographer went looking for "the place" that serviced this village. A short distance from the village, the videographer found the pond (aka the place). Best way to describe " the place" was the surface of the pond bubbled constantly. So people did their business on the bank and if they were so inclinded pushed the No.2 into the pond. The bubbling surface was from methane gas generated by legions of defecators.

Now you tell me India dumps tens of thousands of millions of litres of raw sewage into rivers every day. Makes sense - small villages >>> ponds. Large cities >>> major rivers. I assume the mighty Ganges receives its fair share of raw sewage (hint: apparently the natives bath in these rivers)

Walking, talking carriers of the plague and disease. Still, what is immunity to one class of people, is black death to another.

This post reminded me of a friend's experience on a trip to Calcutta, India about 40+ years ago. He said the stench that greeted him when he exited the jet was overwhelming. Don't know if the locals have adopted our western toilet culture yet.

All things considered, I'll skip the leisurely all expense paid trip down the Ganges if you don't mind.

Work bud of mine was all exited when he was assigned a project in India. Needless to say the dream bubble burst very quickly once he spent some time there. I remember hit saying, 'all the blow flies on the planet live in India, the few we have here hitched a ride on someone's luggage so they could escape that shithole'.

That PPM map is bs for more than one reason.

1. Who is measuring the entire Indian Ocean from Africa to Australia, from India to Antartica, for fecal bacteria counts?
2. Why are there no color plumes around the mouths of most African rivers?
3. Why is there significant fecal bacteria on the coast of Antartica?
4. The Indian Ocean has a couple of large counter clockwise currents.Why is the sewage unaffected by the Indian Ocean currents?

Don’t forget the bodies. Cremation… err…. Quality of cremation is dependent on how much you spend. Poor bastards don’t get a good hot long-burning fire like rich people. Partially burnt remains… go in the river still. Indian government tried stopping it but it happens all the time.
