And there would still be a massive amount of conspiracy theorists that would still believe their vote matters.

Dude, you don’t get it. Let me explain. We have to uphold these bedrock principles across the world so that we can destroy these bedrock principles here.

Is this one of those arguments where you just keep repeating "if you dont see/get it" instead of actually explaining your position? I'm legit asking

Couldn't give a shite less about Ukraine, but shite gets dicey when the bear rolls into Poland.

The political difference between Russia and Ukraine is minor. So, I don't care so much.
The difference between China and Taiwan is huge and it would bother me.
The biggest difference would be Korea. If you ranked the 120 some odd nations in the world by GDP, South Korea would be in the top 10. North Korea would be in the bottom 10. And they are the same ethnicity.

I’m genuinely dumbfounded that you don’t understand how China launching a military invasion and occupation/annexation of Taiwan would impact global supply chains.

You think TSMC would keep just pumping out chips through something like that And semiconductors are just the easiest thing to point out because of TSMC’s market share. There’s thousands of other commodities we and the west import from Taiwan, including the large cargo ships themselves.

But I’ll say again that I am EXTREMELY skeptical that after 2020, anyone alive cannot grasp how easily the supply chain is disrupted and how tangled the knot can get.

You might end up feeling effects from losing Taiwan.

Geopolitically, Ukraine’s value is as a breadbasket and China has relied on US wheat to feed its people for decades (which has been a our trump card over them). Similarly, Russia can’t produce electronics (mainly chips). If China and Russia cooperate to gain both territories, they would be much closer to removing our (the west’s) leverage over them. Controlling 90% of semiconductor productions is probably the most concentrated lever of power outside if food production.

Is all that worth American lives? Nah, Ron Paul was correct about isolationism. Produce that shite at home. And quit trying to rule the world.

Taiwan would be a problem. Majority of computer chips are made there.

Regarding Ukraine... I could not care less about them.

What evidence are you using to justify the claim that they wouldn't keep pumping out chips?

A war in Taiwan would devastate the industry. If/when it comes back, we won't get trade deals with the Beijing govt as favorable as those we have with Taipei. China will have leverage over us for national-security necessary technology that they can withhold at anytime until we can source it from elsewhere.

Am I missing something? Does this have anything to do with the OP?

Immediately? Not much. Where the concern is, is what it means in the longer term. Does Russia stop at Ukraine? Do they then decide Poland is fair game since it was a former USSR satellite? How about splitting Germany again? Or taking it whole? Maybe Italy is next? Sweden? England? Greenland after that? Maybe Canada next?

On the other side of the continent, China sees Taiwan as their property. What happens when/if they see Japan as theirs? South Korea? Vietnam? Australia?

The question is "where's the line?" At what point do you feel it becomes necessary for secondary US involvement? Direct US involvement? This isn't a "gotcha" attempt, it's something everyone should be asking themselves.

Ukraine and Taiwan are not worth WWIII. I don’t give a flying frick about either of them in any way, other than they’re being annoying by just existing.

Agreed. I am not sure who said it, but the quote goes something like "I don't know what weapons will be used to fight WW3, but I know sticks and stones will be used to fight WW4"

Common sense predominantly. Are you actually considering a world where TSMC just continues production unabated through an armed invasion and occupation of Taiwan? Don’t think there may just be a liiiiitle be of disruption to Taiwan’s utility and industrial infrastructure with something like that? What planet do you live on and/or what are you smoking?

But there is also the blatant, obvious, and freely available evidence from the last three years.

he Chinese taking over Taiwan would cause disastrous consequences for our economy.

Everyone says this because of so much stuff we buy from Taiwan but we already buy a ton of crap from China now. So how would this be much different than a big company buying out a smaller one and taking over their accounts. This is a challenge to the statement of it being disastrous it is a question.

If Russia is so busy taking over eastern Europe, what's to stop China from taking over all of underpopulated eastern Russia? All those huge forests just waiting to be cut down, all that unexplored land that, odds are, some of it has mineral riches.
