Does Dave Ramsey have a monopoly on pretty sound advice?

Dave Ramsey has good advice for borderline retards or people who are incredibly terrible with money management due to ignorance (and for these people it should only be that first step to get out of hock and to create first principles that they shed once basic understanding/discipline emerges)

Dave Ramsey gets destroyed anytime he has a discussion/debate with a person who gives good advice on how normal or smart people can leverage credit.

We use a Hilton card to pay all our online bills, groceries, gas, etc. and then pay it off each month to get the points.

Haven't had to pay for a hotel room in over 10 years.

The only card we carry a balance on..... balance stays at $0 and 200,000-300,000 points.....

True but you also have to watch them bassturds. The autopay settings on my American Express “defaulted” to pay minimum balance instead of statement balance after the app updated, and I didn’t catch it for two months. First and only time I have ever not paid off my card at the end of the month.

You need to get into the Chase ecosystem where their points are much more versatile and travel (including hotels) gets a 25% discount via their booking hub.

The Walmart card from Onepay and the Amazon card from Chase are probably the best cards on the market, too. 5% cash back on purchases (the Walmart one requires a Walmart Plus membership that's only like $100/year and has a lot of other good benies)

What are you going to do? Carry a big wad of cash everywhere?

Of course you should pay the full balance. Most of the interest rates being charged are ridiculous.

I have credit cards for 2 reasons: First, in the event that someone steals your cards info it is easier to sort out vs a debit card and you’re not out any liquid money while the dispute process is ongoing. I know this from personal experience.

Secondly, I get probably $2000 in straight cash back a year. Every 4-5 years my wife and take a really nice vacation that is almost entirely paid for by cash back on shite I was buying anyway.

I say this as someone who has never paid a dime in interest to a credit card company though and pay the balances off every 2 weeks

This is almost exactly why we use a CC for almost everything. Just as you, we never pay interest and never carry a balance.

What credit do you think is acceptable then? Our business has a LOC to fund our payroll because our billing cycle doesn't normally matchup to our paychecks going out. Without it, it requires more of a cash reserve that we don't really need to keep on hand. Drawing some fuzzy line on what type of credit should be acceptable and what is not seems like just some subjective takes on what one person thinks is a priority and what isn't.

My line in the sand is generally, are you paying unsecured debt off before you are dead or if your estate can cover it? If yes, i don't care if you pay every month or once a year. It gets paid. You are free to frick your credit up if you want.

1st, who is Dave Ramsey?
2nd, why is not carrying CC debt around a bad thing?
3rd, why do you always prove a certain effect every chance you get?

63% of american's can't cover an unexpected 500 dollar expense. all this would do is ensure those american's don't get credit cards.

Hey fascist, why would you want to decide what other people need with their own money?

A lot of CC users don't carry debt, they pay it off. Some for points, benefits, cash back, others for fraud protection.

Having a CC doesn't equal carrying debt.

OK

Are you suggesting that it should be prohibited by the government? Because that sounds a bit paternalistic.
